About the role

We are looking for an experienced Data Scientist to work at one of our global biopharma customers on a range of Biostats models consulting and development engagements. They are expected to bring extensive knowledge in best practices on R package development, model development and deployment on Databricks, collaboration with version control systems, and familiarity with other topics such as data architecture and cloud infrastructure. They will be working closely with Ascent's existing team embedded in the customer's organisation; this demands professionalism and empathy. A dedicated focus on delivering high-impact outcomes that delight our customers is key.

The role is expected to perform these tasks in an enterprise environment:

  1. Develop professional quality R packages;
  2. Provide consultancy on Biostats model development and deployment best practices;
  3. Review and optimise code, integrate existing modelling code into packages;
  4. Design and implement end to end modelling and deployment process on Databricks;
  5. Support and collaborate with adjacent teams (e.g. products, IT) to integrate the modelling solution;
  6. Continually innovate with the team and the customer on using modern tooling to improve model development and deployment;

Skills and Experience

A successful candidate will have demonstrated these experiences:

  1. A background or work experience in biostatistics or a similar discipline;
  2. Strong R programming, and R package development;
  3. Statistical model deployment, and end-to-end MLOps is nice to have;
  4. Having worked extensively on cloud infrastructure, preferably Databricks and Azure;
  5. Shiny development is nice to have;
  6. Can work with customer stakeholders to understand business processes and workflows, and can design solutions to optimize processes via streamlining and automation;
  7. DevOps experience and familiarity with software release process;
  8. Familiar with agile delivery methods.
