Senior Curator (Exhibitions and Engagement)

Programme Delivery
• Curate a programme of temporary exhibitions, collection displays and events across the Lakeland Arts sites.
• Work closely with the Senior Leadership and the Programming Team to plan and develop a dynamic, inclusive and ambitious programme.
• Ensure the alignment of the Lakeland Arts programme with the organisation’s NPO Activity Plan and other stakeholder commitments.
• Lead and manage the Programming Team including the Learning and Engagement Manager, Collections Manager, Exhibitions Manager and Programme Curator.
• Maintain administrative systems to support the effective delivery of the programme.
• Promote the use of collections for engagement, learning and audience development.
Communication and Networking
• Develop local, regional, national and international partnerships and collaborations.
• Give talks to visiting groups including schools and colleges as well as at member, patron and benefactors’ events.
• Represent Lakeland Arts at external meetings and events, raising its profile through effective networking.
• Oversee the management of the Bloomberg app CMS, ensuring digital content is relevant, accessible and up to date.
• Support the marketing teams with copy for use in press releases, publicity, promotional print and the website.
Finance and Fundraising
• Monitor project budgets in liaison with the CEO, controlling team expenditure, keeping financial records, producing regular reports and feeding into budget planning.
• Contribute to Lakeland Arts’ strategic and business planning.
• Maintain records relating to all projects, producing stakeholder and board reports as required.
• Contribute to funding applications.
General

• Ensure that all Lakeland Arts policies and procedures are adhered to.
• Participate in staff training and team activities.
• Evening and weekend work sometimes required for which TOIL will be given.
Person Specification
Essential
• Track record of programming and curating major exhibitions and projects of a high quality.
• Proven experience of leading and managing a team of staff including freelancers and volunteers.
• Strong and proven budget management skills.
• Experience of collection care.
• Excellent researching, writing and oral communication skills.
• Proven ability to engage stakeholders, including hosting events and talks.
• Self-motivated and collaborative with a proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to work flexibly and under pressure to tight deadlines.
• Educated in a relevant subject to degree level or equivalent.
Desirable
• An understanding of the communities, audiences and the arts and heritage landscape of Cumbria/South Lakes.
• Experience of working in an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation.
• Post-graduate qualification in a relevant subject.
