CITY OF WORCESTER
POLICE DEPARTMENT
The City of Worcester seeks qualified applicants for the position of
Senior Crime Analyst for the Crime Analysis Unit within the Worcester Police Department. Under the general direction of the Principal Crime Analyst and a sworn Police Official, the Senior Crime Analyst will perform tactical, strategic, and administrative analyses for the Crime Analysis Unit. This individual will collect, compile, and analyze police data from a variety of sources to identify and evaluate problems, crime series, patterns and trends, and prepare analytical crime summaries, statistical reports, and infographics.

Essential Elements
- Collect and analyze data to determine patterns, trends, problems, and crimes series
- Prepare analytical crime summaries, statistical reports, and infographics daily, weekly, quarterly and annual crime reports as requested.
- Analyze Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), incident, and arrest data daily to identify crime patterns and trends.
- Detect emerging crime patterns and series and provide thorough analysis
- Prepare advisories on critical issues.
- Identify suspect and crime relationships.
- Disseminate intelligence between divisions and with neighboring jurisdictions.
- Prepare statistical reports for grant applications and public consumption.
- Assess and design progressive analytical tools.
- Liaise with outside entities to provide data to community groups, media, researchers and facilities of higher education, etc.
- Stay up to date on current crime scene trends, software/tools, and on legal guidance, codes, and laws related to confidentiality and intelligence use.
- Other duties may be assigned by supervisory staff.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Ability to present, interpret, explain, and defend analysis of information
- Ability to research and work independently,
- Excellent interpersonal skills,
- Ability to be self-driven,
- Valid Driver’s license and the ability to travel
- Ability to work on an on call basis, when necessary, and perform work tasks outside of routine office work hours
- Demonstrated ability uses critical thinking skills and ability to make sound judgment
- Working knowledge of law enforcement operations and police data.
- Proficient with relational databases and spreadsheet applications including Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) as well as Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Highly detailed oriented with the ability to organize and prioritize work and projects
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of crime analysis
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to develop sound conclusions from research and/or comparisons
- Ability to follow and explain complex instructions, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to learn the City and Police Department policies, procedures, and practices.
- Strong mathematical and statistical skills
- Ability to work with command staff decision makers, investigative personnel, and patrol officers.
- Ability to communicate methods and results in language easily understood by police personnel
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, statistics or related field
- Two (2) years of experience with crime analysis, data analysis or related discipline
- Ability to pass a comprehensive criminal history background check
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft office, GIS, and/or CAD
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in criminal justice, statistics or related field
- Four (4) years of experience with crime analysis, data analysis or related discipline
- Experience handling confidential and sensitive information
- Certified Law Enforcement Analyst Certification
SALARY RANGE: $63,908 - $83,631 annually, full-time, exempt, with an excellent benefits package.
