The project: Research and biopharmaceutical sector ranging from managing global property portfolios and business case development to construction delivery, fit-out commission and hand-over. This is a new role supporting the pharmaceutical and technology business unit in our consult engine.

    • You will manage cost planning including ownership of and presenting cost plans to clients and internal stakeholders.
    • You will manage the procurement process, ensuring stages including prequalification, enquiry, analysis, selection and contract preparation are performed effectively.
    • You will support the delivery of cost management services to deliver key strategic outcomes and KPIs, directly influencing strategic development of plans.
    • Undertake and deliver project quantity surveying and cost management services to a high standard in support of contract administration, cost reporting, cashflow forecasting, purchase order management.
    • Implement an integrated cost management strategy for the project, leveraging contractor reporting and considering project contracting strategies and team structure.
    • Implement the standard work breakdown structure (WBS) principles from the early inception of the project.
    • Be responsible for resolution of escalated issues with the contractor's.
    • Management and assistance with framework contract inc. agreement of annual inflation uplifts, advising on contract strategy, tender preparation and analysis.
    • Lead and support the team in the development of the project control plan for projects.
    • Prepare accurate cost reports and forecasts per project requirements on a monthly basis, reviewing inputs from the contractor/supplier base.
    • Review cost reports with the project manager and at management levels.
    • Develop and maintain reports including cost analysis and forecasts, cashflows, cost variance performance reporting, contingency and management reserve rundown trends.
    • Perform project commercial and financial control functions including contract administration, invoice review, purchase requisition support, asset registration and ensuring project compliance with company policy.
    • Develop and maintain project reports including cost financial analysis and forecasts, cash flows, contingency/management reserve rundown/trends, plus project risk assessments impacting schedule and cost.
    • Implement change control processes and management tools from the early estimates.
    • Provide proactive communications to ensure project team leadership is appraised of the cost status on projects.
    • Assist in the development and delivery of training the engineering network in good practices related to project control.
    • Identify and implement continuous improvement activities for the project cost control function and in support of the planning and scheduling function.
    • Ensure that all cost/schedule control and commercial activities comply with corporate capital governance requirements and internal guidelines.

You'll need to have:

  • Degree in quantity surveying/cost management (or equivalent).
  • Professional membership i.e. MRICS/RICS (or equivalent) and moving towards fellowship, or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development.
  • Commercial and financial acumen.
  • Knowledge of value engineering, life cycle costing, contract law and contractual frameworks relating to construction.
  • Experience of managing parts of projects within large, diverse teams.
  • Experience of managing relationships with key senior stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of how carbon and sustainability considerations will shape the outlook of the projects you are working on.
