Job description

Our client is a leading engineering and project services company who provide bespoke solutions across a number of marine and defence related areas. Due to recent projects won they now require a Senior Control Engineer to join their busy North East office.


The Role
  1. Leadership and development of a small team of Control Engineers.
  2. Providing Technical support, Investigation and resolution of Control System related issues across a wide range of products.
  3. Implementing upgrades and updates to existing equipment.
  4. Ensuring customers are well supported in their service needs and technical issues are resolved quickly and efficiently to maintain high customer satisfaction.
  5. Efficient Management & Prioritisation of workload for the Engineers.
  6. Delivering a high standard of work in line with the company's Software quality control procedures.

The Person
  1. Strong engineering background with a thorough technical knowledge of Control, Automation and Safety Systems and equipment.
  2. Appropriate Computer/Engineering related qualification (degree/HND) or comparable industrial experience.
  3. Experience in:
    1. Design of control & automation systems.
    2. Programming of PLC, HMI & SCADA systems.
    3. Commissioning, Testing and Client Support of industrial control systems.
    4. Involvement throughout the whole project lifecycle, from design through coding to testing, installation and documentation.
    5. Management & Development of a small team of Engineers.
    6. Working for clients in the marine, subsea, oil & gas and renewables market.
    7. Recent experience of a similar role in a bespoke engineering environment / providing service support.
    8. Experience of working to ISO9001 or equivalent in a project based organisation.
    9. A high level of competence with IT systems and tools.
    10. Excellent Customer Service skills.
  4. Desirable Skills / Attributes:
    1. Experience of Siemens TIA Portal / Unified (preferred).
    2. Experience of Rockwell or Mitsubishi platforms.
    3. Experience of configuring & commissioning Variable Speed Drives (Siemens, Nidec & ABB).
    4. Previous experience within the Marine / Offshore / Subsea environment.
    5. Knowledge & experience of relevant functional safety standards (IEC61508, IEC61511, IEC13849).
    6. Chartered Engineer status.
