About The Role
Hippo is recruiting for senior consultants in content design.
As a senior consultant, you’ll come to Hippo as an expert in content design and working in multidisciplinary teams.
You’ll also be a leader of people and teams and advocate for user-centred design approaches with our diverse range of clients.
Hippo will provide exciting opportunities to share your expertise with, and influence, clients and team members, and to develop as a leader.
As a senior content design consultant, you’ll:
- already be an expert in content design
- help clients explore and solve problems with user-centred design
- champion inclusive approaches and styles within content design
- establish and manage relationships with clients and stakeholders
- be comfortable working in rapid sprint cycles
- run workshops with your team and stakeholders
- participate in Hippo communities of practice, including attending content crits and writing blog posts
- support Hippo in recruitment, events, blog-writing and winning new business
- promote Hippo values
- be a strong communicator
- have a positive “can do” attitude
Skills and experience that you need
- design end-to-end service and static web content, meeting user needs
- write accurately using and contributing to style guides
- proactively design accessible, inclusive content and articulate how content decisions relate to WCAG
- use insights from user research and metrics to shape end-to-end service content strategy
- make complicated information easy to understand
- work and pair-write with subject matter experts
- create and iterate prototypes
- use design software such as Miro, Figma, Sketch or the GOV.UK prototyping kit
- work with and contribute to design patterns and content patterns
- actively contribute to a community of practice
- proactively share your work and encourage colleagues to do the same - through a peer review or sub-editing process, group content crits, community meet-ups or show and tells
- understand the user research process - how to contribute to discussion guides, research reports, and take notes in research sessions
- use and configure a content management system
- understand SEO and how it relates to content design
It'd be great if you can also:
- develop and implement new content strategies for a business area or organisation
- understand information architecture techniques and principles
- use content audits to implement a content maintenance plan
- produce technical content where appropriate
Agile and multidisciplinary team experience
You'll need:
- experience of Agile ways of working through the project lifecycle (Discovery, Alpha, Beta, Live)
- experience of working with user researchers, UX or interaction designers and other members of a multidisciplinary team (for example, product owner, delivery manager, developers, business analysts)
It'd be great if you can also:
- identify the best Agile processes for projects and measuring the success of outcomes
Consultancy and business experience
You'll need to:
- manage tricky conversations when people don't understand the value of Agile user-centred design
- be experienced and confident at explaining design decisions to people
- have the ability to line manage, coach or mentor people
It'd be great if you can also:
- write and contribute to bids and business documents
- pitch new ideas and proposals to colleagues and clients
Industry experience
You'll need:
- extensive demonstrable experience as a content designer in the public sector
- an excellent working knowledge of the Government Digital Service (GDS) Digital Standard and Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) assessments
It'd be great if you also had:
- experience of working as a content designer for private sector companies
