About us
The Maximising UK Adaptation to Climate Change (MACC) Hub, housed within the Department of Geography and the School of Global Affairs (SGA) at King's College London, is a pioneering initiative addressing the critical challenges of climate adaptation. Funded by the UK's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and UK research councils (UKRI), the Hub will coalesce the skills and expertise needed from across relevant sectors to aid the development and implementation of climate change adaptation in the UK. The Hub draws together academic and knowledge exchange partners from across the UK to deliver on this objective.
As a dynamic hub of interdisciplinary research, the School of Global Affairs (SGA) brings together world-class expertise to tackle the most pressing global issues. Therefore, we are seeking a Senior Communications and Engagement Officer to play a pivotal role in shaping and driving the communications plan for the MACC Hub.
At King's, we are deeply committed to embedding good equality and diversity practices into all our activities so that the university is an inclusive, welcoming, and inspiring place to work and study, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marital status, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation. King's offers inclusive benefits to staff, including flexible working, Enhanced Parental Leave, funds for Parents and Carers, and the potential to join community staff networks.
About the role
Working closely with the Hub Manager and Director, the post holder will be responsible for shaping and driving the communications plan for the MACC Hub. This role will ensure effective dissemination of the Hub's work, key insights, and outputs to a broad range of stakeholders, including policymakers, researchers, and practitioners across the UK, and beyond. The successful candidate will oversee the development of high-quality content and liaise with a range of stakeholders, ensuring the Hub's initiatives are clearly communicated and its impact widely recognized.
The role will include working closely with internal teams and external partners to maintain a cohesive narrative around the Hub and its achievements, and to increase meaningful public engagement on adaptation. To do so, the postholder will draw content and messaging from community adaptation projects and policy focused research, funded by the Hub. In joining the MACC Hub, the post holder will become part of a dynamic and high-profile UK-wide network of adaptation scholars and practitioners. They will work closely with the Stockholm Environment Institute, particularly through its weADAPT platform, and the climate communication NGO Climate Outreach. On a day-to-day basis, the post-holder will benefit from working alongside a diverse cohort of research managers in the School of Global affairs research office.
The post holder will be able to work as part of King's hybrid working model (Strand Campus), with the expectation to be on campus two days a week.
This is a full time (35 Hours per week) role, and you will be offered a fixed term contract until June 2027.
