We operate a hybrid way of working, meaning that you'll split your time across client location, Faculty's Old Street office and working from home depending on the needs of the project. For this role, you can expect to be client-side for up to three days per week at times and working either from home or our Old Street office for the rest of your time.

About the Role

This role is situated within our Applied AI consultancy, which serves clients across UK Defence, Government, Life Sciences, Energy, Banking and Retail. As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will work in the business area where the need is greatest and this may change from time to time, depending on our external client requirements. We are a rapidly growing business and require all our employees to be versatile across sectors and confident to be client-facing within those.

What you'll be doing:

A Senior Cloud Engineer at Faculty helps our customers by building robust, secure and scalable Cloud Infrastructure to support their data and machine learning workflows.

You'll work as part of a cross-functional technical team to build solutions to some of the hardest problems in applied artificial intelligence. Your role will evolve alongside business needs, but you can expect your key responsibilities to include:

• Working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders going from idea to implementation as well as contributing to internal Cloud Engineering best practices, standards and code repos; enabling Machine Learning Engineers and Data Scientists to take ownership of their cloud deployments.
• Proactively contributing to Faculty's growth by working with our customers to recommend how they can leverage Cloud infrastructure to solve their problems.
• Having a passion for growing the technical capabilities of a team; adopting a caring attitude towards the personal and professional development of other engineers.
• Being involved with the project life cycle from idea generation to shipping.
• Actively looking out for the best open source technologies to be used in the development of Faculty's infrastructure.
• Creating and maintaining reusable libraries that are used company-wide.

To succeed in this role, you'll need demonstrable experience in some of the following:

• At least one of the major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• GitOps:
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform.
  • CI/CD, for example ArgoCD, Gitlab Pipelines, CircleCI.
• Containerisation and deployment with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Networking fundamentals, IP networking, TCP, HTTP.
• Cloud security fundamentals: least privilege access, security groups, isolated networks.
• Technologies our teams use that are nice to know, but not essential: Task orchestration, ELT, Serverless, Event Streaming.
• Python, NodeJS or other scripting languages.
• Leading teams of engineers to deliver high-quality work for our customers.
