We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic and self-motivated Pharmacy Technician who would like to develop their specialist clinical trials skills and knowledge.

This 9-month fixed-term post offers an individual the opportunity to help to lead our well-established Clinical Trials team based at St Bartholomew's Hospital. There are two Band 6 Pharmacy Technicians within this team with this role taking a lead on dispensary-based studies across a range of clinical specialties.

The post holder will be a team player and keen to continue to improve quality standards within the department. This position offers the opportunity to learn new skills, develop existing ones as well as being a valued part of the wider multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The principal objective of this role is to oversee the operational aspects of all dispensary based trials at St Bartholomew's Hospital. The post holder will be expected to:

  1. Co-ordinate the efficient and smooth running of operational pharmacy aspects of dispensary based clinical trials at St. Bartholomew's Hospital.
  2. Support the clinical trial coordinator to ensure all documentation including standard operating procedures are relevant, in date and according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) requirements.
  3. Contribute to service development programmes and maintain systems consistent with GCP requirements.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Level 3 Diploma in Principles and practice for pharmacy technicians or equivalent.
  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification.
  • ILM Level 3 Leadership and Management qualification or equivalent.
  • Quality Improvement training.
  • Practice Supervisor.
  • HR training.

Desirable

  • Specialist technical / Management modules or equivalent experience in Aseptic preparation.

Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience of good performance in previous posts.
  • Previous significant experience of working in clinical trials.
  • Demonstrable experience of providing pharmacy professional training, and supporting training.
  • Experience with undertaking appraisals, devising PDPs, setting SMART objectives and creating action plans.
  • Experience of collecting, manipulating and presenting data in appropriate format using Microsoft Office Word and Excel.

Desirable

  • Experience with management of staff including experience of conducting disciplinary meetings and chairing meetings.
  • Previous experience of working in Aseptics.
  • Evidence of project management.
  • Experience with recruitment and selection chairing interviews.
