We are looking for someone who can work confidently with a range of people from across disciplines to make a positive impact in supporting our ambition to ensure the use of restrictive interventions is used as minimally as possible, and when required, applied in ways that meet best practice safety and quality standards.

Main duties of the job

You will have significant clinical working experience, with a knowledge of the national frameworks, guidance that inform best clinical practice. You will demonstrate enhanced communication, working alongside service users, families, staff and other stakeholders to deliver a robust system underpinned by restorative reviews that delivers on our goals and ambitions.

The role works within the Nurse Consultant Network, as part of a governance and supervisory function that supports services to meet their quality goals and standards of experience, safety and effectiveness.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The “must haves” for this role:

  • To play a lead role in supporting the Clinical Director in the continued development of the trusts Patient Safety Culture and specifically the reduction of restrictive practices.
  • Develop and lead networks to share good practice and learn from each other, engaging with regional and national improvement collaboratives.
  • Ensure that systems thinking, human factors understanding and just culture principles are embedded in all processes and lead the promotion of restorative supervision.
  • Support the development of the reducing restrictive practice agenda as identified in the CQC strategy.
  • Develop education and training aligned to the developing Guidance.

Person specification

Education/Qualifications/Training

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent level of experience.
  • Clinical Qualification.
  • Teaching qualification or demonstrable formal study of educational principles and practice.
  • Restorative supervision.

Continuous Professional Development

  • Evidence of continued professional development.

Previous Experience

  • Experience of working within a range of services.
  • Clinical and Supervisory Experience.
  • Experience within inpatient environment.
  • Experience in a senior organisational leadership post in inpatients.
  • Influencing and engaging senior managers and clinicians within the NHS on the subject of restrictive practices.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • A high-level ability to communicate effectively highly technical and clinically sensitive information within and outside the NHS.
  • Highly developed skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
  • Experience of leading and managing resources.
  • Dynamic, highly determined, results focused and resilient, enjoys change and innovation.
  • Ability to develop and use Forum Theatre approaches and complex multi-media materials for presentations.
  • Able to apply critical appraisal skills and constructively apply these in reviewing evidence against national standards.
  • Able to reflect, analyse and interpret highly complex information and concisely draw conclusions.
  • Able to undertake robust and formal investigations and produce meaningful reports.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to travel between sites as required.
