Job description
Job summary

Applications are invited for a Senior Clinical Fellow (ST4 and above) in Paediatric Rheumatology. The post will commence from 01 September 2025, and it will be based at Evelina London Children's Hospital at Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust. The postholder will gain broad experience in an exciting new paediatric rheumatology service and network. The post will be offered on a six month contract in the first instance, with a view to extend if possible.

This post is not recognised for GRID training by the RCPCH but this post fulfils the requirements set for tertiary training. Previous overseas trainees from countries including Australia and Switzerland have had their training at Evelina London Paediatric Rheumatology recognised by their local regulatory bodies. This post had been approved for Medical training initiative programme.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit a dynamic candidate to join our service supported by a full MDT, including psychology, and with close working relationships across all paediatric specialties especially infectious disease, nephrology, cardiology, dermatology and adult lupus and rheumatology. The post holder will participate in a full range of daytime activities including outpatient clinics, joint injection lists, liaison with services across the network, work up of acutely unwell patients and support of inpatients. There will be opportunities to be involved in development of new models of care, education, quality improvement and in paediatric mental health.

The post holder will join the Evelina London General Paediatrics rota (1:8 weekends), more details available on request. General paediatrics is a vibrant and growing service covering general paediatric admissions and supporting the paediatric A&E service, HDU and a large PICU.

Job responsibilities

Paediatric Rheumatology at Evelina London provides a trainee with a unique opportunity to develop their skills relevant to paediatric rheumatology and beyond. This service provides exposure to inflammatory conditions such as JIA, connective tissue diseases, vasculitis, auto-inflammatory diseases as well as non-inflammatory conditions such as biomechanical pain, hypermobility, sports injuries, chronic pain (juvenile fibromyalgia/ amplified musculoskeletal pain syndrome) and medically unexplained symptoms.

There are clinics not just within Evelina but also network clinics at peripheral hospitals. This provides a great opportunity to understand how Evelina Paediatric Rheumatology supports clinicians and allied health professionals in peripheral hospitals in providing care closer to home. There are rehabilitation programmes for non-inflammatory conditions outpatient as well as inpatient. This is a great opportunity to develop skills in managing complex patients using a biopsychosocial model.
