An exciting opportunity has arisen for candidates to join a growing team at the Institute of Neurological Sciences. The Senior Clinical Fellow in Neurosurgery position in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde in a UK-renowned fellowship that provides exceptional training and educational access, alongside widening a trainee’s clinical experience and management capabilities.

The post-holder will be expected to support in the delivery of ward-based and clinic-based activities, as well as supporting the access to theatres to develop a fellows skills. This fellowship is a general neurosurgical fellowship, and the post-holder will be expected to participate in a 16-person trainee rota for the out of hours cover.
Post-holders will be assigned clinical appraisers who can support the development of the fellows.
Post: General Neurosurgery Fellowship –12 months

Role: Senior Clinical Fellow
Base: The Institute of Neurological Sciences, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow
The General Fellow will work with the existing Department of Neurosurgery middle-grade rota and participate in all aspects of this work. The post-holder will support a designated team and work closely with the Consultant body to deliver high quality care.
The post holder can expect frequent access to theatre, clinic, MDTs and ward-based management of patients. They will be assigned an educational supervisor who will support the candidate in their development.
This post is ideal for those candidates seeking further exposure to a wide range of neurosurgery in both an emergency and elective setting. This post will allow candidates to hone their skillset and become a better-rounded neurosurgeon.
The duties of this role will involve surgical management of all sub-specialty cases as well as routine and emergency work. The successful candidate would be expected to attend daily handovers and ward rounds, contribute to the education of the wider unit, and participate in the 16-person rota (2-resident on call).

Post: Royal College of Surgeons Specialist Fellowship – Pituitary and Skull base (Neurosurgery), 12 months

Role: Senior Clinical Fellow
Base: The Institute of Neurological Sciences, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow
The Skull Base & Pituitary Surgery Fellowship at the Institute of Neurological Sciences is a 12 month, Royal College of Surgeons of England approved, Senior Clinical Fellowship.
Candidates will be expected to develop a holistic management strategy for patients with pituitary and skull base disorders; to progress their understanding of skull base anatomy, the natural history of lesions and their management, while participating in all aspects of sub-specialist patient care; and to produce an original piece of research aligned with the progression in treating skull base disease.
Practically, the candidate will be expected to develop robust ability in skull base surgical approaches (both endoscopic and open) and in pre-operative evaluation and peri-operative management of patients with skull base disorders, including endocrine disturbance.
The successful candidate would be expected to participate in the MDTs, clinics, daily handovers and ward rounds.
The candidate will be part of the general 16-person neurosurgical on call rota (2-resident on call).

Post: Specialist Fellowship – Neuro-oncology (Neurosurgery), 12 months

Role: Senior Clinical Fellow
Base: The Institute of Neurological Sciences, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow
The post provides a structured educational experience for suitable candidates who have completed, or are about to complete their training curriculum. It provides a comprehensive training program in the neuro-oncology subspecialty.
The Fellow will be exposed to a high number of neuro-oncology cases, and would hold responsibility for the preparation of cases for MDT discussion and will have the opportunity to participate on-going clinical or laboratory research within the Institute of Neurological Sciences.
This post offers a wide range of clinic, ward-based and surgical experience. The successful candidate will also contribute to the training of pre-CCT Trainees.
The post-holder will be supervised by the lead neuro-oncology consultant and the neuro-oncology consultants.
The successful candidate would participate in the 16-person rota (2-resident on call).
