Job summaryThis appointment is for a Senior Clinical Fellow in General Surgery to start in mid-April until 30th September 2025 on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave. The post is based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage and you would be expected to participate on a 1:14 on call rota.
This is a fantastic opportunity within the General Surgery department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust for the successful candidate to gain experience of working in a busy general surgery department. The successful candidate will have opportunities to further their surgical knowledge through exposure to clinics, operating lists, ward rounds, multidisciplinary team meetings and formal teaching. The post holder will be encouraged to participate in audits, presentations and teachings. Although, this post is not recognised for training the appointee will be encouraged in their training and development within the role.
Main duties of the job- The post will be a balance of outpatient, day case and inpatient operating duties.
- The appointed post holder will participate on a 1:14 on-call rota.
- To participate in the department's teaching, audit, and educational activities.
Person SpecificationQualifications / TrainingEssential- Hold a current licence to practice from the General Medical Council.
Desirable- MRCS or equivalent.
- Advanced Life Support Certificate or equivalent.
Previous ExperienceEssential- Evidence of achievement of ST2, CT2 competences in a relevant specialty at time of application and likelihood of achieving ST3/CT3 competences in a relevant specialty by the start date of the post.
- Good range of experience in General Surgery.
DesirableSkillsEssential- Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
- Able to show situational awareness and application of good decision making.
- Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice.
- Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues.
Desirable- Ability to teach clinical skills.
- Experience in organising educational activities.
KnowledgeEssential- Demonstrate understanding of basic principles of audit, evidence based practice and clinical quality improvement initiatives.
