Location: Bristol (Hybrid Working Available)

The Role

A reputable design and build provider in the water sector is seeking a Senior Engineer – Civil to join its dynamic engineering team. Reporting to the Principal Engineer or Regional Discipline Lead, the successful candidate will deliver superior quality design services on turnkey and engineering contracts. This role is central to minimizing risks and maximizing profitability through innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable design solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and produce detailed design layouts and documentation that meet project specifications and health and safety standards.
  • Create economic, constructible designs that consider design, material, erection, and inter-disciplinary impacts.
  • Follow and enhance established procedures and processes to maintain high standards and competitiveness.
  • Coordinate design efforts with internal and external disciplines for integrated project delivery.
  • Maintain comprehensive project records and ensure customer satisfaction throughout contract lifecycles.
  • Support the development of team members through mentoring and supervision.
  • Ensure designs address environmental, health, and safety requirements, while minimizing waste.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in delivering complex water industry engineering projects.
  • Understanding of water and sewage treatment principles.
  • Experience in managing and mentoring teams in the design of water and sewage treatment plants.
  • Membership of a professional institution (chartered or nearing chartership); relevant Engineering degree preferred, minimum HND acceptable.
  • Ability to rationalize designs and produce economic plant layouts.
  • Broad knowledge of water treatment aspects, including mechanical, process, electrical, and project management.
  • Strong communication skills for clear and confident technical presentations.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency with design software.
  • Valid driving licence and willingness to travel as required.
  • Desirable: Progression towards Chartered Engineer status, relevant Master’s degree, and experience in digital design on design-and-construct projects.
