Job description

JOB: Senior Buyer

LOCATION: Somerset area

TERM: Permanent candidates only

SALARY: £45,000 - £50,000 and other great benefits


We are looking for a Senior Buyer on a permanent basis in the Somerset area to support with sourcing direct & indirect materials at the appropriate quality on time and at competitive costs.


The Senior Buyer will ideally have the following attributes:

  1. 3+ years experience of Production planning in a manufacturing environment
  2. Ideally CIPS qualified or equivalent
  3. Demonstrated proficiency of ERP/MRP systems (preferably SAP)
  4. Understanding of quality requirements in tightly regulated industries
  5. Experience in manufacturing environment essential
  6. Advanced Excel knowledge
  7. Self-motivated individual
  8. Works effectively in a small team
  9. Flexible approach to meeting deadlines

The Senior Buyer role will involve:

  1. Inventory management: Work with internal and external partners to optimise stock and ensure stock is provided in line with product lifecycle and business requirements.
  2. Work with Product/Programme team to manage procurement actions in new product introduction.
  3. Purchasing of direct materials in line with operational requirements. Actioning the requirements of MRP.
  4. Identify and manage cost reduction initiatives.
  5. Maintaining part and procurement parameters in MRP/ERP, i.e. supplier lead times, strategic safety stocks, yields.
  6. Running tender processes for new requirements, negotiating pricing and terms and conditions.
  7. Develop and maintain proactive supplier relationships.
  8. Continuous Improvement: Work with internal colleagues and group colleagues to continuously develop and improve procurement and supply chain processes, tools, and ways of working. Implement new tools, processes, and procedures that are identified for group rollout.
  9. Supplier Quality: Work with suppliers and other departments to ensure robust corrective actions are in place to deal with non-conformity.
  10. On a regular basis monitor Procurement KPIs (OTD, Quality, PPV) and publish along with action plans to deliver agreed targets.
  11. Build strong internal relationships and work with all areas to address purchasing issues and requirements.
