Senior Business Intelligence Analyst

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Business Intelligence Analyst with excellent technical and communication skills to join the Business Intelligence Team in the Surgery and Cancer Board.

We provide accurate, timely and complex analytical support to the Board, turning data into meaningful information that all aspects of the business (quality, access standards, productivity, activity, income, research) can utilise to make evidence-based decisions and drive improvements. As such, strong Excel skills, an attention to detail and the ability to expertly interrogate relational databases using SQL is essential. Experience of Power BI is also desirable. Applicants should also be experienced in communicating with technical and non-technical colleagues and be able to cater analytical products to a wide range of audiences.

Main duties of the job

Whilst the post holder will work closely with the Business Intelligence Partners they should be able to work autonomously, and with minimal supervision where required. The ideal candidate will also possess the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple and competing priorities to meet agreed deadlines.

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential

1. Educated to degree level or equivalent.
2. Holds a relevant Masters' degree level qualification or equivalent experience.

Experience

Essential

1. Significant experience in an information analysis role
2. Experience of working with relational databases
3. Experience of using query tool functionality

Desirable

1. Experience in an NHS informatics role or other healthcare information environment
2. Experience of using Power BI
3. Experience of using Epic, including its BI stack, including developing Radar, Slicer Dicer, Reporting Workbench contents
4. Membership of a relevant professional organisation (AphA, BCS, DAMA etc.)

Skills and Abilities

Essential

1. In depth specialist knowledge of information analysis and the use of information in support of business objectives
2. Ability to interrogate databases
3. Ability to interpret complex data
4. Ability to convert data to management information
5. Ability to independently interpret the requirements of information users and present detailed, complex reports that can be understood by a wide audience.
6. Understanding of data quality issues and how these relate to the organisation as a whole
7. Strong SQL (or equivalent) skills
8. Intermediate / advanced use of MS Excel

1. Intermediate use of Power BI
2. Understanding of income algorithms and financial planning in the NHS
3. Understanding of the use of clinical terms and codes within the NHS
