The Role:

Senior Business Analyst

M&G are looking for a Senior Business Analyst within the Finance Change team to help achieve some of the key strategic objectives of the group, particularly focused around the implementation of capabilities to support new business growth within the CRIS (Corporate Risk & Investment Solution) business unit.

1. The Business Analyst will work with the business and strategic partners to analyse and understand the business problem/opportunity based on an understanding of the business objectives and deliver desired business outcomes.
2. They will define the approach and plan for your business analysis work including stakeholder engagement and outcomes of analysis activity. This will also include working with the business to gather, analyse, challenge and prioritise the business requirements in relation to the business problem.

Key Responsibilities for this role:

1. Investigating, understanding and capturing requirements: You’ll work with others in your feature team to work on requirements, to present them in a way that can be understood, and to support their build and implementation. This may be with internal teams or partners who are third parties.
2. Help to shape the overall solution design: working with Finance and CRIS SMEs to develop appropriate business solutions for new and emerging requirements.
3. Contribute to their team and produce the right outcomes: You’ll work with the Business Analysts to help them to do the right activities and to produce the right outputs. You will step in and be part of the team where necessary.
4. Unblock problems and issues: Work with the team to anticipate and unblock issues that they may encounter. You’ll need to be finding solutions to the problems encountered and facilitate their implementation.
5. Prioritisation: Where there is more demand than supply, help prioritise in creative ways so the work can be completed.
6. Stakeholder management: You will build relationships with peers and stakeholders. You will influence them for the positive in the area of Business Analysis.

Key skills & competencies:

1. Understanding business processes: You will be able to understand business processes and be able to analyse and document current processes clearly. You will be able to identify and implement opportunities for optimisation and transformation. You will be familiar with financial services products and practices.
2. Technology skills: You will have a good understanding of technology and will be comfortable working in a technology team. You will be familiar with architecture terminology and have broad experience of key industry software. You will feel comfortable diving into some of the technology detail and analysing data. You will be comfortable working in agile and waterfall methodologies and understand advantages and disadvantages of different methodologies.
3. Research and critical thinking skills: You will be able to take a problem and consider several possible outcomes. You will be able to identify the best outcome by probing and researching viable options. You will be able to present your findings in a way that is appropriate for the intended audience to understand.
4. People skills: You will be interacting with a lot of people at many different levels. You will need to understand how different people think and what motivates them in order to help determine business analysis outcomes.
5. Communication skills: You will need to be a good listener and to understand what people are telling you. When you communicate, it will need to be effective, at the right level of detail, at the right frequency and in the right way. You will need to be a good negotiator.
6. Business Analysis skills: You will need to know formal business analysis skills. You will know how to investigate, analyse, visualise and articulate and solve problems. You will need to make sure the solution aligns with the vision of M&G. You will have kept abreast of market trends and techniques.
7. Can do attitude: You will want to find solutions, to overcome issues, and to be willing to roll up your sleeves to get the job done.

Key knowledge & experience

1. Finance Domain knowledge
   • Experience working with senior accountants, actuaries and Finance operations teams to elicit requirements and drive through process documentation.
   • A high level understanding of M&G Plc’s strategy, our key products and distribution methods is advantageous.
   • Experience of developing strong working relationships and coordinating activities across finance and wider business areas.
   • Knowledge of UK GAAP, Solvency II and IFRS is desirable.
   • Knowledge of financial services reporting, regulatory and legislative frameworks.
