Would you like to work for Europe’s largest conservation charity which looks after nature, beauty and history for everyone to enjoy?

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Building Surveyor to join our Estate Management Team, working across Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire including the beautiful estates of Hughenden, Cliveden, Buscot and Coleshill.

You’ll lead the approach to managing a large and varied let portfolio including residential, holiday cottages, commercial, and agricultural properties which are occupied by our tenants. Principally working on historic and listed buildings, you’ll be a key influence in helping guide and prepare our let buildings to meet future challenges.

Your contractual location will be our Hughenden Hub, Buckinghamshire, and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office at least once a week. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times which could be at one of our Estate Offices in Oxfordshire or Berkshire.

What it's like

Reporting to a Senior Estate Manager, you’ll be joining a supportive organisation, we’re one of the leading experts in the care and maintenance of historic buildings and offer significant opportunities for CPD and Building Conservation accreditation.

Joining us, you’ll have an interesting variety of work, a good work-life balance and a chance to build up significant professional skills and experience.

What you'll be doing

As the technical buildings lead in our multi-disciplinary and friendly team, you will work closely with colleagues in the estate management team, and in the organisation, to manage high-level planned and reactive maintenance over a three-year budget settlement with a focus on delivering best value and high-quality work.

The role will also require you to project manage or be the client for a variety of construction projects up to, and occasionally over, the value of £1m. Line managing and supporting the professional development of a small team of building supervisors, you’ll play a pivotal role in preparing our let estate for the future.

Who we're looking for
  • Qualified surveyor or architect (e.g., MRICS, MCIOB or equivalent)
  • High-level financial acumen and strong experience of managing large budgets
  • Demonstrable experience in building surveying in heritage and conservation
  • Robust building conservation knowledge, including procurement, maintenance, repair, and asset and contract management
  • An understanding of relevant legislation and best practice
  • Experienced in delivering projects in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Adept with working at pace across a varied client base
