We are a seed-stage company backed by Khosla Ventures, Illumina, Innovate UK as well as ex-founders from Rodan & Fields (Unicorn skincare brand), Wayve (self-driving cars) and CoverWallet.

We are a team of innovators and scientists headquartered in London.

Mitra bio is disrupting the skincare industry through data. Mitra is developing a skin longevity platform powered by non-invasive sampling and epigenetics to enhance diagnostics and personalized treatments for the skin.

Role

This is not a typical Backend/Cloud Engineer role. Your work will translate into an impactful product in the hands of the consumer. You will be responsible for expanding and optimizing our cloud infrastructure and data pipeline architecture, as well as optimizing data flow and collection throughout our custom built Clinical Management Interface (CMI). You will work closely with the Data Science team and support seamless integration with their pipelines.

Responsibilities:

1. Design and deliver infrastructure for state-of-the-art client reporting on high throughput DNA sequencing data.
2. Work on AWS infrastructure (data storage, analysis pipelines, compute nodes and AWS specific user/role/resource permissions).
3. Enhance and optimize the current AWS compute framework to increase automation and throughput (i.e. optimize AWS Batch usage).
4. Contribute to the design, development, and implementation of microservices.
5. Support data scientists by integrating data analysis pipelines into the computational infrastructure.
6. Maintain and optimize databases.
7. Facilitate seamless integration of data pipelines (i.e. data processing on AWS, dashboards for internal use and for external vendors and clients).
8. Troubleshoot and resolve backend and cloud-related issues.
9. Manage multiple projects simultaneously and complete projects in a timely & reliable manner.
10. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Experience and Essential skills:

1. Proven experience as a backend engineer or similar role for 3 years, with hands-on experience in AWS services.
2. Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or another quantitative field.
3. Fluent in Python.
4. Proficiency in relational database design, management, and optimization (i.e. Postgres).
5. Strong experience in software development, test-driven development and proficiency in collaborative software development practices (code reviews, branching models).
6. Experience in version control, CI/CD, automated deployment and DevOps practices; experience deploying and maintaining secure computing environments.
7. Knowledge of containerization (Docker), orchestration tools (Kubernetes is a plus) and Infrastructure tools (e.g. TerraForm).
8. Strong understanding of microservices architecture and RESTful API development.

Desirable:

1. Familiarity with tools used in modern Illumina NGS data analysis (i.e. Nextflow).
2. Familiarity with front-end technologies (e.g. React/Svelte/JavaScript/PHP).
3. Experience working in agile environments.
4. Familiarity with research governance, The Data Protection Act and Good Clinical Practice.
5. Curiosity about using and implementing current AI technologies into company workflows.
6. Prior experience supporting Data Science teams.
