Division/Dept info

The FCA is the UK investigating and prosecuting authority for insider dealing and market manipulation. The Secondary Market Oversight (SMO) department sets our strategy for this work and leads in its delivery. We do this by managing some of the richest datasets and intelligence in the world, deploying state-of-the-art analytics and bringing together a diverse mix of experienced investigators, regulators, markets professionals and data scientists.

We have an exciting opportunity to join one of our Insider Dealing (ID) teams. The ID teams hold the primary responsibility of identifying and reviewing potential cases of equity insider dealing that do not fit the criteria of being perpetrated by organised criminal groups. As part of the FCA’s enhanced focus on non-equity market abuse, the remit and capabilities of these teams are expanding to incorporate allegations of market abuse in the Fixed Income and Commodities markets. This is an exciting time to join the FCA and SMO and help contribute to the FCA’s wider effort to enhance the integrity of non-equity markets.

What will you be doing?

  • Reviewing allegations of insider dealing and making fast evidence-based recommendations on which require further investigation
  • Managing your own portfolio of casework
  • Providing financial markets expertise to support Enforcement investigations
  • Developing and delivering impactful non-Enforcement outcomes
  • Helping to progress thematic workstreams, working with other areas of the FCA
  • Using experience and expertise to share knowledge and capabilities and contribute to the department’s wider objectives

What will you get from the role?

  • You will be part of a motivated team that is at the centre of expertise regarding insider dealing and have the opportunity to work with talented individuals with a variety of technical skillsets
  • You will have considerable exposure to a variety of activities covered by the department and exposure to interesting, varied work in a priority area for the FCA
  • The opportunity to take responsibility for your own caseload, making recommendations and decisions to achieve a variety of outcomes
  • The opportunity to work as an Appointed Investigator on Enforcement investigations
  • You will have excellent learning, training and personal development opportunities
