WE ARE LOOKING FOR A NEW TEAM MEMBER! Join our diverse, global team.

The LSEG Oil Research team provides market insight, analysis, and instantaneous access to clients interested in the crude oil, refined products, and petrochemicals sectors by continuously monitoring global supply and demand, trade flows, infrastructure outages, derivatives markets, and other financial activities. We are currently seeking a Senior Analyst with expert market or industry knowledge of biofuels or petrochemicals. Based in either London or Houston, the role will focus on either the Americas or Europe, Middle East, and Africa region and will be responsible for publishing weekly and event-driven market reports and insights, developing supply and demand models, and monitoring trade flows and other relevant market factors, including pricing.

You will be involved in data collection and manipulation, quantitative and qualitative analysis, as well as report development and client presentations. Additionally, you will be encouraged to develop advanced models and visuals in Python and PowerBI to support our market analysis and outlooks, and ultimately take the lead on building relationships with various partners in the relevant regional energy markets.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic Research team in the oil sector to design and develop new methodologies, quantitative models, and analysis that enhance existing or new products and services.

Role Responsibilities

  • Conduct primary and secondary research on biofuel or petrochemical markets, focusing on developing supply and demand models.
  • Maintain daily interaction with a network of local and international market players to provide market insight and contribute to our products.
  • Conduct research, prepare client deliverables, and complete workflow to the required quality and within the designated timeframe.
  • Continuously maintain and improve core technical and analytical processes.
  • Support the business development process by demonstrating our capabilities and research to clients.
Qualifications and Experience Required
  • A Bachelor's degree in Economics, Mathematics/Statistics, Data Science, Engineering, or Petroleum studies from a reputable university. A Master's or technical specialization/certification would be an advantage.
  • Very strong experience of at least 8-10 years in the physical product or petrochemical markets or a research house, either as a trader or analyst, with a strong understanding of market fundamentals and the oil and gas value chain. Candidates with experience in the Refining sector or trading operations are also encouraged to apply.
  • Team player, with a flexible attitude and approach to delivering value-additive outcomes for clients.
  • Understanding of financial markets and their impact on the oil industry.
  • Network of physical trading contacts in either the Americas or EMEA.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate with individuals at various levels within the organization as well as external clients.
  • Experience building global supply and demand models, either as part of a Research advisory organization or for an oil company, is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in advanced Excel (VBA coding would be a plus) and other Microsoft Office applications is a must. Knowledge of Python or MATLAB is a strong advantage, as is advanced knowledge of PowerBI.
  • Strong time management skills for handling multiple tasks simultaneously while completing work within allocated timeframes.
  • Good critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail.
