The Senior Analyst, Legal Trading Compliance is charged with ensuring that Cheniere’s domestic US and international natural gas and LNG marketing, trading and related transportation activities are conducted in accordance with applicable Anti Bribery and Corruption (ABC) and Economic Sanctions (ES) regulations, such the US Foreign and Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), the UK Bribery Act (UKBA), US OFAC sanctions, the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy (CSFP), and other relevant legislation where Cheniere has a material business presence.

The Senior Analyst would be required to work independently to carry out the day-to-day Due Diligence (DD) monitoring and Know Your Counterparty (KYC) activities, and to be able to manage more complex issues requiring input from a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

The Senior Analyst will assist the Compliance Directors with developing internal systems to detect and investigate potential compliance failures, and with using these systems to perform internal compliance monitoring and monitoring external regulations in order to identify new obligations on CMI/requirements; thereby, identifying adjustments to the internal Trading Compliance policies, processes and systems. As needed, the Senior Analyst will work closely with the Cheniere Legal Department and other departments to help support and resolve potential regulatory inquiries and investigations.

The Senior Analyst would also support the Manager, Market Analytics in ensuring that Cheniere’s trading activities are conducted in accordance with applicable laws, including but not limited to the regulations promulgated by the UK, Spanish and other relevant National Regulatory Authorities in Europe and the US.

KNOWLEDGE:

Experience with Know Your Counterparty and Due Diligence processes and related legislation (in particular the UK Bribery Act and US FCPA) is a requirement.

A demonstrated background in wider Compliance practices and principles would be an advantage, particularly within the context of Commodity Trading.

Thorough knowledge of how commodity trading businesses transact, including the physical and financial trading of natural gas and other energy commodities would be an advantage.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Assist with the day-to-day operation of Cheniere’s European commodity trading and international LNG trading compliance program as directed by the Compliance Directors.
  • Carry out CMI’s Due Diligence checks on counterparties, shipping operation suppliers, marketing consultants and shipping agents.
  • Work with the Lead Analyst to coordinate the KYC approval process for Cheniere’s trading counterparties, work with other functional teams and reprioritize work as the business requirements and risks change.
  • Keep abreast of new or developing compliance risks related to changes to ABAC and ES regulations and contribute to knowledge transfer by preparing briefings for colleagues in Compliance and Legal.
  • Identify opportunities for program enhancement to improve the efficiency of the Compliance Team’s working practices.
  • Provide input to the Compliance Director on existing regulatory processes to ensure adequate compliance safeguards that mitigate compliance risk and proactively identify possible compliance failures.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within both Trading Compliance and the wider Legal and Compliance organization to develop positive and proactive approaches to compliance.

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS):

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent is required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in ABAC/KYC compliance

Skills:

  • Working knowledge of natural gas and LNG markets, and of ABAC and KYC processes.
  • Must demonstrate integrity, decisiveness and good judgment under pressure.
  • Ability to manage a diverse and demanding workload, and to work independently on often complex and time critical items.
  • Strong organizational skills, being able to think critically, multi-task and work with a complex range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work as a member of a global team.
  • Strong ambition to learn and ability to communicate with people of different professional backgrounds.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Strong analytical skills are required.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:

Position has no direct reports but may be required to direct work of Contractors or Consultants.

FREEDOM TO ACT:

This position requires minimal supervision over work assignments.

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • Job is performed in a typical office environment, but is subject to time pressures and constraints, and is often dependent on input from others.
  • Occasionally, work may be performed from home, after normal work hours or on weekends.
  • Periodically travel as business requires.
