We have an exciting opportunity for an Acoustics Consultant to join the AECOM Acoustics team. Offices locations across the UK will be considered.

You will contribute to a wide range of acoustics projects primarily covering environmental SNV. As a member of our Acoustics team you can expect to work on a wide range of interesting and challenging projects including some of the biggest projects in the UK.

Recent and current clients include HS2, Transport for London, NEOM, Defra, Shakespeare North, Battersea Power Station, Houses of Parliament, HMRC, BBC, Guys and St Thomas's Hospital.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual keen to work collaboratively within an established Acoustics team. They will have excellent technical, project management, presentation, report writing, personal organisation and communication skills.

The individual will already be developing a strong track record and preferably have experience of working on a range of acoustics commissions from small to major multi-disciplinary projects covering sound, noise and vibration (SNV) technical areas. Additionally, they should have a solid background in acoustics, be someone who is innovative and is willing to exploit the latest technologies, but who can explain acoustics to a non-technical audience.

The successful candidate will be expected to work and maintain relationships with both internal and external clients; lead the acoustic inputs to projects and be involved in managing the technical and financial aspects of projects. The individual will also work across wider multi-disciplinary design teams and be expected to establish strong working relationships with other internal teams, including EIA, transportation, M&E Engineers and Architects.

The candidate will also be expected to undertake a range of site measurements and testing, data analysis, predictions, and write technical reports on a range of projects. Experience of displaying and manipulating datasets in GIS software would also be beneficial.

There will be the need to visit sites and meetings across the UK and work away from home for short periods, potentially including overseas.

Here's what you'll do:

  • Provide Expertise: Have a good understanding of the Environmental Impact Assessment process regarding SNV. Have experience of undertaking, overseeing and technically reviewing noise models using various software such as CadnaA, SoundPLAN, CATT, Insul, EASE, and SketchUp etc.
  • Lead: The acoustics input, undertake predictions, assessment, and write reports on a range of projects.
  • Collaborate: Have experience of liaising with and providing advice to clients on acoustics projects. Proactively identify opportunities to cross-sell services to internal and external clients and assist with the winning of sufficient work from internal and external clients to contribute to team growth.
  • Ensure Quality: Be able to manage own workload, develop new lines of work or smarter ways of working, whilst making time available to accelerate the development of technical skills in more junior staff, including being available to provide on the job advice and instruction.

Here's what we're looking for:

  • A first degree (and preferably a post graduate qualification such as a Masters) in acoustics or relevant technical disciplines (e.g. Physics, Maths or Engineering).
  • Corporate membership of the Institute of Acoustics (MIOA/FIOA).
  • Ideally be of chartered status or evidence of working towards this.
  • Full clean driving licence.
