Join Our Series A Startup as Senior Accountant to Help Thousands of Nonprofits Get Access To Funding!
We're looking for a qualified and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to serve as the primary financial contact for our Foundation partners. This role involves maintaining high standards in accounting, audit, and financial reporting, overseeing external accounting and tax firms across multiple jurisdictions, and ensuring compliance with diverse accounting standards.
This role will also have scope to be involved in Goodstack's broader financial activities if interested such as FP&A.
As Senior Accountant, Your Mission Will Be To:
- Financial Liaison: Act as the main point of contact for Trustees and Foundation's Manager (Foundation Company Secretary), providing clear and accurate financial information and insights.
- Financial Management: Ensure all accounting, auditing, and financial reporting activities meet the highest standards of accuracy and compliance.
- Oversight of External Partners: Manage relationships with external accounting and tax firms in the UK, US, Australia, Ireland, Canada, and India, ensuring their services align with our Foundations' needs and regulatory requirements.
- Compliance and Standards: Maintain a comprehensive understanding of accounting standards across various jurisdictions to ensure all financial activities are compliant.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Trustees, Nonprofit Operations, Fin Ops teams, and external professional service providers, including accounting, tax, and legal firms.
- Month-End Processes: Assist external accountants with month-end queries to ensure timely and accurate financial closings.
- Annual Accounts: Lead annual accounts preparation with external providers to agreed timelines with Trustees.
- Annual Return submissions: Charity Commission (UK), Inland Revenue Services (USA), Canadian Revenue Agency, Charity Regulator Authority in Ireland. Ad-Hoc Chairman's support for the Australian Charities and Nonprofit Commissioners.
- Reconciliation: Ensure accurate reconciliation of all transactions in a timely manner.
- Payments: Ensure suppliers are paid promptly, recorded, and reconciled in a timely manner.
- Ad Hoc: Assist the Foundation Company Secretary and Goodstack Finance Director on various requests.
After 3 Months, Success Will Look Like:- Developed a thorough understanding of the foundation's financial operations, including accounting practices, audit procedures, and financial reporting standards across all relevant jurisdictions.
- Established strong relationships with Trustees, Nonprofit Operations, Fin Ops teams, and external professional service providers.
- Identified and implemented improvements in financial workflows, leading to increased efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting and compliance.
- Consistently met month-end closing deadlines by effectively coordinating with external accountants and addressing queries promptly.
This Role Is a Perfect Match for You If You Have:- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with 1 to 3 years post qualified experience.
- A broad understanding of accounting standards (IFRS, GAAP, US GAAP, etc). Not all standards need to be known.
- Understanding of how tax works.
- Ability to engage and communicate effectively with Trustees.
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and compliance in all financial activities.
- A process-driven mindset, with a passion for continually refining workflows for improved efficiency.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with a commitment to accuracy in all tasks.
- A metrics-oriented approach, with a strong motivation to hit SLAs and meet team targets.
- Excellent prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey complex processes clearly.
- Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and experience with accounting and data analytics software.
Bonus If You Have Knowledge Or Love Of:- Xero and QuickBooks experience.
- Experience within the nonprofit sector or with social impact-oriented brands.
- Familiarity with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or employee engagement initiatives, especially within corporate environments.
