Job Description

We are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a child with ASD/ADHD in a primary school setting. This is a full-time position with the potential to continue until July 2025. In this role, you will play a key part in helping the child engage in their learning, develop social and emotional skills, and make progress in their academic journey.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide 1:1 support for a child with ASD/ADHD, assisting them in accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities.
  2. Support the child's emotional and social development, helping them build positive relationships with peers and staff.
  3. Work closely with the class teacher and SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to implement individualised learning plans and strategies.
  4. Assist with behaviour management, ensuring a calm and productive environment for the child.
  5. Support the child with activities both in the classroom and during outdoor breaks, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  6. Help prepare resources and materials tailored to the child's needs to aid in their learning.
  7. Monitor and record the child's progress, providing feedback to the teacher and other relevant staff.

Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  1. Experience working with children who have special educational needs, particularly ASD and/or ADHD.
  2. A genuine passion for supporting children with additional learning needs and a commitment to helping them reach their full potential.
  3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to form positive relationships with both children and staff.
  4. A proactive and adaptable approach to supporting the child in a variety of classroom and social settings.
  5. A relevant qualification (e.g., CACHE Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent).
  6. Patience, empathy, and the ability to think creatively to support the child's learning and development.
