Job description

SEND Science Teacher - PRU, SEMH

Type: Permanent (via trial contract)

Start: ASAP

Location: Swindon

Pay: MPS & UPS + SEND allowance

Elementa are recruiting for an able Science Teacher to work at this special school & PRU based in Swindon. The school provides education across their sites for learners that have ASD/ASC (Autism), SEMH and other complex needs as well as for children that have been permanently excluded from school. Often, all of their children display challenging behaviours.

Naturally being a Science Teacher in this type of teaching environment comes with its challenges; however, this truly is a rewarding place to work. Despite the challenges their learners face, the school has high expectations of their learners and nurtures and supports them. The headteacher is continuing the long-standing approach to offer outstanding opportunities for the learners while also maintaining a highly positive, friendly & welcoming work environment for colleagues.

Applicants with Team Teach training or other positive behaviour management training may be at an advantage; however, free training will be provided for the successful applicant. The school operates on a transparent and collaborative basis between staff & the senior leadership team. Ideas are shared, and everyone has the opportunity to enhance the working environment and student opportunities. Overall, this is a highly positive environment to work in for both staff & students.

If you are a skilled Science Teacher looking for an opportunity where you can see the clear difference that you are making to students while working alongside a strong teaching & support staff team, this is the job you should apply for.

Applicants should have good previous SEND experience and knowledge, particularly in SEMH and ASD/ASC, and how to adapt the education approach to ensure that high-quality learning still takes place. Non-subject specialist teachers can be considered, provided that you have good previous Science teaching experience and are able to engage learners and deliver high-quality lessons.

To be considered for supply opportunities, you must:

  • have good previous SEND experience
  • be committed to the schools' policies & procedures
  • display resilience & tenacity
  • be fully invested in supporting students' education & future opportunities

Elementa will be managing all applicants and screening their suitability for the school. Elementa is not a supply agency; we are a school services & recruiting partner to schools. We will manage the candidate vetting & compliance and process your payroll on behalf of the school. Therefore, applicants being considered for the role after pre-screening will be required to complete the registration process for Elementa. This includes full vetting & background checks and application for an Enhanced DBS Disclosure (which may be chargeable @ £53.20) unless you have a current DBS on the update service.

If you have the relevant skills and experience necessary for this role, then please apply with your full up-to-date CV. All applicants will be promptly responded to.

This role is not suitable for applicants:

  • not currently based in the UK
  • without UK SEND teaching experience
  • requiring sponsorship for the right to work in the UK

ELEMENTA CANDIDATE COMMITMENT:

  • Weekly pay with no waiting for monthly payroll cut-off dates; Elementa pays one week in lieu.
  • PAYE contract unless a candidate specifically requests it; all candidates are paid via PAYE, giving them the protections and payment structure of a traditional employer-employee relationship; no umbrella companies.
  • Training & Support: a broad range of free or heavily discounted training available including Safeguarding, Behaviour, Team Teach, SEND, Makaton, and Thrive.
  • Regular welfare contact and support from a dedicated candidate manager.
