Job description

Location: Stockport
Salary: £89 - £100 per day
Contract: Full-time, Temporary to Permanent
Start Date: ASAP

Are you passionate about supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? A welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Stockport is looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. This role is ideal for someone with experience in SEN support or a psychology/education-related background looking to gain hands-on experience in a school setting.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support to students with additional learning needs, including autism (ASC), ADHD, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties.

  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging, accessible lessons by differentiating materials to meet individual student needs.

  • Support students with emotional regulation and behaviour management strategies, fostering a positive learning environment.

  • Work closely with the SENCO, teachers, and parents to develop and implement effective learning strategies and Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

  • Encourage students to build confidence, independence, and social skills in the classroom and school environment.

Requirements:
  • Experience working with children with SEN (preferred but not essential).

  • A background in psychology, education, social work, or a related field is advantageous.

  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

  • A proactive, patient, and compassionate approach to supporting student learning and well-being.

  • An enhanced DBS check on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
