Position Available: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Croydon
Start Date: April

Are you a passionate SEN Teaching Assistant looking to make a positive impact on every student's school life?

A Special Educational Needs school is looking for 3 dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to join them full time after Easter on a year contract with a chance of becoming a permanent member at the end of the contract.

About the School: A recently fully refurbished Primary & Secondary SEND school providing an exciting, innovative and personalised curriculum for all pupils who have either severe or profound learning difficulties, many of whom also have a diagnosis of Autism.

The range of disabilities requires the contribution of a multidisciplinary team with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and special school support assistants, all working cooperatively with the teaching staff to meet the individual needs of the students.

Position Overview: They are seeking 3 compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to join the team on a 1-year contract basis from April. This contract is 5 days a week, term time only. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing personalised support and assistance to our students with special educational needs, where you will be supporting children on a 1-1 or 2-1 basis. The students' needs range from ASD, SLD, PMLD, and Emotional Behaviour.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the classroom teacher as a SEN Teaching Assistant in implementing individualised education plans (IEPs) for students with diverse learning needs.
  2. Provide one-on-one or small group support to students during lessons and activities.
  3. Support students with personal care tasks, including toileting, feeding, and mobility, as needed.
  4. Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
  5. Assist in the implementation of behavioural interventions and strategies to support positive behaviour management.
  6. Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and other professionals to support student development and progress.
  7. Maintain a safe and organised classroom environment, ensuring the well-being and safety of all students.

Qualifications:

  1. Previous experience working with individuals with special educational needs preferred.
  2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  3. Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with students with diverse learning needs.
  4. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  5. Willingness to undergo relevant training and professional development as required.
