Job description

SEN Teacher who has some previous SEN teaching experience or experience working with vulnerable young people is required for an alternative therapeutic education provider.

The organisation provides therapeutic education where animals, nature and outdoor learning play a key role in helping children and young people engage with education. You don’t need prior experience in secondary education – what matters is a confident, innovative approach to cross-curricular teaching and a love for animals or at least being comfortable around farm-based animals such as goats, pigs, ducks, horses, cows and other small animals. This is a very ‘hands on’ role, working outside in the elements and great fun for the right person, and not so fun for someone who likes to be based in a classroom every day. So, if you prefer the warmth of being indoors then this role wouldn’t be a great fit.

However, if you are an enthusiastic, creative teacher looking for a unique and rewarding role and have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a passion for working with young people, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

SALARY: £34,000 - £44,333 per annum (depending on experience)

BENEFITS: Casual Dress, Company Events, Pension and the chance to work in a great learning environment

LOCATION: There are positions at two sites, West Horsley and Shamley Green

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a SEN Teacher who has some previous SEN teaching experience or experience working with vulnerable young people.

Working as a SEN Teacher you will join an innovative education provider offering alternative therapeutic education grounded in a nurturing animal / farm-based environment.

As a SEN Teacher you will provide a supportive and engaging learning experience for children and young people with diverse needs, where animals, nature, and the great outdoors are integral to the curriculum.

While experience in secondary education is welcomed, it is not essential. What truly matters is your ability to inspire and motivate students, your commitment to inclusive practices, and your willingness to embrace the unique opportunities the farm-based setting provides. Experience of safeguarding and an understanding of how to apply safeguarding principles in practice is essential for this role.

You will play a vital role in developing and delivering engaging lessons that connect academic learning with real-world experiences, fostering both educational progress and personal growth in the students.

If you are excited by the prospect of fostering a love of learning through practical, hands-on activities and believe in the power of a holistic approach to education, we encourage you to apply.

Why Join?

  • A truly unique role: Teach in an outdoor, farm-based setting with a strong emphasis on experiential and therapeutic education
  • Small class sizes: Work with young people in small group settings tailored to their individual learning needs
  • A hands-on approach: Be prepared to roll up your sleeves and engage in farm-based activities, animal care, and practical outdoor learning
  • A collaborative team: Work alongside multi-disciplinary professionals in education, therapy, and animal-assisted interventions
  • The opportunity to shape learning: Provides you the chance to co-design and deliver a bespoke curriculum
  • A supportive and rewarding environment: Help young people develop confidence, skills, and a love for learning

DUTIES

  • Delivering creative, cross-curricular education for learners aged 11-17 in a therapeutic setting
  • Designing and implementing individualised learning programmes based on students’ Education & Care Plans
