SEN Teacher - Hastings, East Sussex Full time - 5 days a week

SENCare Recruitment are currently recruiting for a SEN Teacher to work within a specialist school based in Hastings.

About us: This is a special school for pupils from year 3 to year 11, who have the capacity to reach age-related expectations yet whose neuro-diverse profiles alongside additional social, emotional, and mental health result in significant barriers to learning.

Start: ASAP
Hours: 8:30am-4:00pm - Mon Fri

Responsibilities:

  1. Commit to working within a structured therapeutic environment and be active in observing behaviours, planning and implementing individual management programmes, and regularly monitoring, evaluating, and revising as appropriate, involving close liaison with all school staff.
  2. Work within the 24-hour behaviour management programme guidelines in the school's policy.
  3. Facilitate the reintegration of pupils into the appropriate environment for social and academic development, which may involve short- or long-term programmes, requiring close contact with home and schools as appropriate.
  4. Demonstrate a commitment to the school's development, including participation in staff in-service training, formal and informal discussions with staff, working as an equal part of the whole group, and offering innovative ideas and presenting them to the group.
  5. Demonstrate a commitment to developing as a professional, involving career planning and participation in in-service training in school, in the county, or out of the county, including specific training in the use of Trauma Informed Practices.

The ideal candidate will:

  1. Plan and teach inspirational, specialist, and highly differentiated lessons.
  2. Make accurate and productive use of assessment to promote good progress.
  3. Have a clear DBS registered to the update service.
  4. Be available Monday-Friday - 5 days a week.
  5. Have an empathetic and calm nature.

Main duties:

  1. Hold a Graduate Teaching Status qualification.
  2. Demonstrate a commitment to further and ongoing training, particularly in the relationship between behaviour, emotions, and learning.
  3. Have an understanding of the national curriculum, especially Key Stages 2 and 3.
  4. Possess KS4 experience in chosen subject, especially English, Maths, Science, Art, Technology, and ICT.
  5. Have experience or interest in special educational practice, especially with children with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
