Job description

Job Advert: SEN Teacher - KS3
Location: Christchurch, Dorset
Position: Full-Time, Permanent or Temp to Perm
Start Date: ASAP

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated SEN Teacher to join a supportive and growing school that provides tailored education to students aged 6-16 years with social, emotional and mental health needs. This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of students with SEMH needs. The position is available on a Permanent or Temp to Perm basis, to start as soon as possible.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver high-quality, differentiated lessons to students across KS2/K3 curriculum tailored to meet the individual needs of students with SEMH.
  2. Develop and implement individual education plans and provide appropriate support to help students achieve their learning goals.
  3. Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment, using de-escalation techniques and promoting emotional and social development.
  4. Monitor and assess student progress, providing regular feedback to students, parents, and the wider team.
  5. Work closely with teaching assistants, SENCOs, and other professionals to create effective support systems for students.
  6. Build strong relationships with students to promote trust, self-confidence, and positive behaviors.
  7. Engage in regular professional development to stay updated on best practices for teaching students with SEMH needs.

About You:
  1. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  2. Experience working with students with SEMH or other SEN needs, ideally within an alternative provision or specialist setting.
  3. Strong knowledge of the curriculum and how to adapt it for students with SEMH.
  4. Ability to implement effective classroom management strategies and support emotional and behavioral development.
  5. Compassionate, patient, and resilient, with a genuine desire to help students succeed.
  6. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, parents, and external professionals.
