GSL Education are seeking an SEN Support Worker to join schools in Dorchester.

About the role:

This role involves providing one-to-one and group support to students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), assisting with their academic and personal development, and working closely with teachers and other support staff to create an inclusive and engaging classroom experience.

What you have to do as an SEN Support Worker:

  • Provide individual and small group support to students with SEN.
  • Assist in the implementation of learning plans tailored to students’ specific needs.
  • Help students with social and emotional development, fostering confidence and independence.
  • Support students in engaging with classroom activities and curriculum content.
  • Promote positive behaviour management and assist with emotional regulation techniques.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to ensure student progress.
  • Adapt teaching materials to meet students’ learning styles and abilities.
  • Maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for all students.

Skills & Requirements for an SEN Support Worker:

  • Previous experience working with children with SEN as a SEN Support Worker in a school or care setting.
  • A degree in Psychology, Counselling, Education or a similar field.
  • Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance (desirable but not essential).
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with students and staff.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

To thrive in this role, you should:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from the last two years.
  • Possess an enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
