Job description

Smile Education are recruiting for an SEN Teaching Assistant to work in an all-through SEN school in central Birmingham. The school is rated ‘good’ in their latest Ofsted inspection and has a strong and welcoming atmosphere within the staff team.

The SEN Teaching Assistant role would be working full time on a 1:1 basis with a primary school child in year 6 with autism, working Monday to Friday 8:30 to 3:30.

The Responsibilities of the SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Have a sole focus on working 1:1 with a child in year 6.
  • Develop and concentrate on building a relationship with the child, staff, and family members.
  • Constant and consistent communication with the class teacher regarding progress and potential methods of work.
  • Create a secure and positive environment for the child to learn and feel comfortable.

To apply for this SEN Teaching Assistant role, you will need:
  • An up-to-date DBS on the update service or dated within the last 12 months.
  • A teaching assistant qualification or health and social care (level 2 or 3).
  • Experience working with SEN children on a 1:1 basis or in small groups.
  • Experience working with primary school children.
  • At least 2 professional references covering the last 2 years of work history.
