Job Description:

Your new company: Hays are recruiting for Teaching Assistants to provide long-term, full-time support within an SEMH school based in Newcastle under Lyme. The school has approximately 120 students aged between 11-19 and 90 staff. They take a holistic and nurturing approach to education and offer facilities such as sensory rooms and a pool for hydrotherapy.

Your new role:

1. You will be providing support to children who have a background of trauma which has altered the way they process information.
2. You will work closely with the teaching staff to provide targeted support and guidance for students.
3. 1:1 or group work with students who require additional support.
4. Assisting the teacher with classroom preparation.
5. Leading group work.
6. Helping the class teacher with pupil observations.

What you'll need to succeed:

1. Previous experience working with students in a SEMH environment is desirable but not essential.
2. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with both students and colleagues.
3. Patience and empathy when dealing with students facing challenging circumstances.
4. You’ll need to be available for a full-time role 5 days per week and available to book long term (minimum of 1 half term).

Working with Hays, you will receive a daily pay rate between £80 - £90 depending on school booking. You will also have a dedicated consultant to provide ongoing support from the point of registering and throughout your time working with us.
