Job description

The role of Security Engineer sits within Enterprise Services. The employee will be involved in the installation and commissioning of a range of security systems. The Security Engineer will have a strong understanding of a range of security products and the underpinning theory as to how they operate. This would include CCTV, Access Control, Intercom and how they may connect into other systems. A good understanding of IP networking and how it relates to IP based security systems is also required. As part of this role the engineer must also be a capable structured cabling installer as they may be involved in installing the network infrastructure the security system sits on or aid in the installation of structured cabling systems in other areas of the business as the need arises.

As a customer facing operative, the engineer will be expected to provide a high level of customer service in keeping with Sudlows standards as well as proving clear and concise communication both internally and externally. The highest levels of workmanship are expected as standard as well as strict adherence to our health and safety standards. All engineers are expected to be able to follow company processes relating to work generated documentation and our internal paperwork and systems.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  1. Installation and commissioning of Access Control and Intercom Systems.
  2. Maintenance and fault calls on Access Control and Intercom Systems.
  3. Installation and commissioning of CCTV Systems.
  4. Maintenance and fault calls of CCTV Systems.
  5. Installation and testing of Structured Cabling Systems.
  6. Interpreting and understanding proposal documents, schematics and drawings.
  7. Accurate and timely completion of all work-related documentation including but not limited to test results, commissioning information, drawings, and O&M information.
  8. Ensure the highest quality of workmanship at all times.
  9. Ensure accurate, clear, and concise documentation at all times.
  10. Self-auditing own work.
  11. Interfacing with other systems and sub-contractors, in particular but not limited to Building Intelligence and Fire and Intruder alarm services and other life safety systems.
  12. Accurate and timely completion of all internal documentation as required in your employment contract.
  13. Maintain adherence to Sudlows health and safety standards at all times.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Demonstrable knowledge of Access Control and Intercom Installation.
  2. Demonstrable knowledge of commissioning Access Control and Intercom systems.
  3. Demonstrable knowledge of CCTV Installation.
  4. Demonstrable knowledge of commissioning CCTV systems.
  5. Demonstrable knowledge of Structured Cabling Systems.
  6. Previously verifiable experience working in the electronic securities sector.
  7. Understanding of the interfacing requirements between Access Control systems and CCTV, Building Intelligence and a buildings life safety systems.
  8. Knowledge of both open protocol and closed protocol systems.
  9. Good working knowledge of IP networking and its relation to IP based security systems.
  10. Good knowledge of basic electrical principles such as measuring voltage and current drain.
  11. Good attention to detail and accuracy while completing documentation.
  12. Good IT competence.
  13. Working knowledge of current and prevalent Access Control and CCTV standards.
  14. Flexible approach to working location and times.
  15. UK Driving Licence.
  16. CSCS / ECS Card.

Enhanced Requirements:

  1. Industry recognised training and certification in Access Control systems.
  2. Industry recognised training or proven experience in the design of Access Control systems.
  3. Industry recognised training and certification in CCTV systems.
  4. Industry recognised training or proven experience in the design of CCTV systems.
  5. A high technical understanding and proven experience in IP networking, including switching, routing, and wireless.
  6. Proven experience and/or industry recognised training with other technologies in the Intelligent building space such as CCTV, Intelligent Lighting, HVAC, and Energy Management.
  7. Experience working to NACOSS NSI Gold Standards.
