Working within the Estates and Facilities Directorate, the Security and Risk Manager will be responsible for overseeing the University's security and guarding services, ensuring the safety and security of all students, staff, and visitors.
The role will involve managing security staff, developing and implementing security policies and coordinating emergency response and resilience planning across the University campuses and residences.
Key tasks will include:- Annual planning, budgets, training, developing and overseeing security strategy, policies, procedures, and site assignment instructions to ensure a safe campus environment.
- Collaborating with other departments, local law enforcement and emergency services to ensure a safe campus environment.

Responsible for: Security services and campus safety - to include oversight of security site manager, supervisors and up to 30 security officers.
Job Purpose:The Security and Risk Manager is responsible for overseeing the University's security and guarding services, ensuring the safety and security of all students, staff, and visitors. This role involves managing security staff, developing and implementing security policies and coordinating emergency response and resilience planning across the University.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:Security Management:- Lead the security team, including recruitment, training, performance management and development.
- Create and manage rotas to ensure adequate cover at all sites at all times, including for unexpected staff absences.
- Develop and oversee security strategy, policies, procedures, and site assignment instructions to ensure a safe campus environment.
- Conduct regular security audits and risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and implement corrective actions.
- Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services as needed.
Resilience Planning:- Develop and maintain the University's Business Continuity and Incident Management plans.
- Lead the response to incidents and emergencies, ensuring effective communication and coordination of Major Incident situations.
- Conduct regular training sessions for staff and students to support emergency procedures and protocols.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of Resilience Plans and update them as necessary working with stakeholders across university sites.
- Support the University Prevent Lead as appropriate.
Stakeholder Engagement:- Act as the primary point of contact for security-related matters within the University.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure security measures are integrated into all aspects of campus operations.
- Provide regular reports to senior management on security and resilience activities and incidents.
- Deliver training on security and resilience-related matters to University staff, outside of the direct team.
- Line management responsibilities including recruitment and selection, performance management, professional development, motivation, health & safety and wellbeing.
- Comply with relevant legislative and other requirements (e.g., the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR; Health and Safety; UKVI; and Equality and Diversity) in all working practices.
- Such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required.
PERSON SPECIFICATION - Essential Criteria OnlyEducation, Qualifications & Training:- Degree in related subject or relevant experience.
- Significant experience in security management, preferably in a higher education setting.
- Risk management experience or qualification.
