Job Description:
JD Ross have partnered with a key client and are looking for a CDAE qualified secondary design engineer.
The Secondary Design Engineer will lead and work in a skilled team on a wide range of substation projects. The position will focus on the project and tender engineering and its interfaces and scope of work involved in HV substation design and construction projects.
Areas of Responsibility
- Overall responsible for managing & leading all secondary engineering activities
- Instruct, supervise & coordinate with other engineering teams, internal & external partners, sub-suppliers, secondary engineers & civil engineers.
- Review P&C design packages.
- Submit completed Design Packages for Design Compliance Audit.
- Ensure all design changes are managed in accordance with the design change management process defined as per NG.
- Attend Design Review meetings (DRMs) and Hazard review meetings (HRMs) as required.
- Review and certify the design packages.
- Secondary design but not limited to SLD, AC & DC distribution systems, battery and battery chargers sizing, voltage drop, cable sizing, signal lists, setting calculation, interface lists, cable block diagrams, multicore & fiber optic cable schedules, and cable core sheets, etc.
- Coordinate with suppliers and review their deliverables. Check remote end requirements and provide input to supplier.
- Be familiar with Substation control systems and their architecture.
- Participate in technical discussions with customers and suppliers, handle site queries and take necessary actions up to as-built documentation.
Technical Expertise Required:
- Prepare Design Intent Document (DID) / Functional Design Specification (FDS) based on supplier inputs.
- Review supplier deliverables based on project specifications and standards.
- Support site team during execution stage.
- Provide technical calculations and schedules for all equipment for projects or tenders.
- Review Suppliers design and Factory acceptance test plans.
- Provide technical support to develop tender scheme options and related project scope documents.
- Availability to travel 25% of the time (domestic/international travel) working in an office and on a construction site.
Experience Required:
- Bachelor or Master’s in electrical engineering or equivalent.
- Extensive years of substation engineering experience in utilities.
- Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE) P&C certification from National Grid.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it.
- Result-oriented team player with a proactive approach.
- Expert knowledge in Substation secondary design engineering, AC & DC system calculation, compilation of signal list, setting calculation, interface engineering, and preparing cable schedules.
