At BBC Studios Drama Productions, we're passionate about developing and nurturing a creative and diverse workforce. We pride ourselves on providing some of the most supportive, hands-on editorial and production training opportunities across the whole of the UK.

The Role

Do you dream of working in the script department of a TV drama? Do you love reading scripts and have a strong sense of story and character? Do you have the administration skills to support a busy team? This is an entry level role providing secretarial support to the script department. The Script Coordinator is responsible for ensuring all drafts and amends, final scripts, front pages, synopses and billings, are accurately typed and distributed to the correct members of production and cast in a timely manner, whilst also providing secretarial support to the Script Producer and Script Editors and general support to the Casualty Script department. You will also carry out general administrative duties like booking transport, arranging meetings, managing the show's bible, talent lists and databases, and fielding emails and enquiries. The role requires excellent organisational skills.

We are looking for someone who is editorially minded for this role given the potential for growth and development, eventually, in to an Assistant Script Editor position and beyond. You will be someone who is excited to get their hands on scripts and has opinions about what makes a good story. You may not always be asked to contribute this - but a strong interest is essential for success. Importantly, you will be a fan of the show and have a good knowledge of current and past storylines.

What does it take?

  1. We're looking for someone who is highly organised - and with a strong interest in story and script.
  2. Experience in an administrative or secretarial role is essential. You will need proven organisational skills and experience including arranging and attending meetings, taking minutes, establishing and maintaining office and administration systems, booking travel and accommodation, hospitality and diary management.
  3. Strong technical skills including Windows 10/11. Experience or knowledge of Final Draft is an asset but not essential.
  4. Experience of confidently communicating with a range of stakeholders in previous positions. This will include evidence of written and verbal skills and a typing speed of 40 wpm minimum.
  5. Experience of evidence of strong attention to detail.
  6. Experience of working with confidential information and an understanding of GDPR.
  7. A strong interest in story and writing demonstrated either through an educational course or qualification, personal writing and reading, or professional experience such as writing for print or the web, or working in drama such as theatre, audio or radio.
  8. You will know and enjoy Casualty and have opinions about our characters and storylines.
  9. You will have a wider appreciation of TV drama and continuing drama generally. For people who love drama, there's no better place to work and we are looking for people who get that.

Script Team Talent Pools

The Casualty script team is essential to the show's success. Awarded the best British soap by BAFTA this year, we have increasingly high standards and want to work with exciting, innovative script talent who are as passionate about the show as we are. These talent pools are an opportunity for us to reach out and engage with people who want to work in our script team. If you are successfully selected to be in the talent pool it doesn't mean you will definitely end up working with us unfortunately. Being in the pool means you will be considered when opportunities come up. The application process is designed so you get the chance to try out your skills on our scripts and storylines. If you are invited to an assessment centre you will also meet our producers and editorial team and can showcase your work to them as well as starting to build relationships. If you are invited to work on Casualty you will need to be based in Cardiff for the duration of the contract, or live within a commutable distance. Unfortunately we don't provide financial assistance for this or cover expenses.

Next Steps

We appreciate your interest in this position and understand how important this opportunity is to you. Due to the high volume of interest we may need to close the application period earlier than anticipated. This step is necessary to ensure we can provide a high level of attention and service to all applicants. Thank you for your understanding.

To be considered for this role you will need to be at least 18 years of age at the commencement of your employment. Please note: If you were to be offered this role, the BBC will conduct Employment screening checks which include Reference checks; Eligibility to work checks; and if applicable to the role, Safeguarding and Adverse media/Social media checks. Any offer made is conditional on these checks being satisfactory.
