Who We Are
NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is the national health board with statutory responsibilities to effect sustainable change through workforce development, education and training across the health and social care system in Scotland, while working at UK level with partner organisations.
The Pharmacy team within NES is responsible through the Executive Medical Director to the NES Board and through the Board to Scottish Government for the commissioning and delivery of postgraduate pharmacy education in Scotland.
The Scottish Pharmacist Clinical Leadership Fellows (SPCLFs) provide a development opportunity for Senior Pharmacists working in NHS Scotland. This includes the Community Pharmacy Sector.
The Opportunity
Do you like a challenge and have the curiosity and ambition to work at the leading edge of Scottish pharmacy development?
Building on the success of the first six cohorts, NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is offering a career development opportunity for up to five senior pharmacists (currently working at Agenda for Change Band 8A/8B or equivalent) currently working in, and committed to, NHS Scotland to become the next Scottish Pharmacist Clinical Leadership Fellow (SPCLF). This includes working in the Community Pharmacy Sector. This will be for a period of 12 months from commencement date.
We will have a range of locations and opportunities available with full details available at the interview stage. Workplaces for these posts will be flexible and if possible, some time spent in NES and within other relevant organisations across Scotland.
This opportunity is designed to strengthen future pharmacy leadership by developing the skills of individuals at a national strategic level with support from NHS Scotland Pharmacy leaders. Each post is an excellent opportunity for senior pharmacists to expand their national leadership experience and develop their skills, whilst maintaining links to their current service.
Working with NHS Scotland Pharmacy leaders, as well as other key strategic groups and organisations within NHS Scotland and the profession, the SPCLFs will be involved in taking forward key national actions which are aligned to Scottish Pharmacy Strategy and key policy areas such as the ‘NHS Recovery Plan 2021-2026’. Project areas will be allocated on appointment in collaboration with the successful candidate.
Applicants should be highly motivated and working at a senior level in any sector of care within NHS Scotland, including the community setting and have a good understanding of NHS and professional structures and processes along with a sound grasp of the Scottish Policy context. Excellent communication skills, experience in service development, and evidence of leadership skills, for example in engaging, motivating and influencing others at senior levels are also essential.
