The role

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Scientist to join our Ames team. This role is within an established and supportive team where you will work closely with our highly experienced Study Directors. For the successful applicant, the role presents opportunities to develop new skills as a toxicologist within a Contract Research Organisation (CRO) environment and has scope for career progression within an innovative and fast-growing business.

Your role

Working closely with colleagues in our bacterial mutation assay team, you’ll carry out high quality non-GLP and GLP compliant Ames studies ranging in format from medium-throughput screening assays to detailed regulatory experiments, based on OECD test guideline 471.

Specifically, you will:

  • Take an active role in the performance and delivery of high-quality preclinical toxicology studies
  • Work closely with the relevant Study Director to ensure efficient and timely performance of assays, maintaining turnaround times and helping us to meet study deadlines. primarily in relation to the Ames test.
  • Take responsibility for aspects of experimental planning, paperwork and data reporting/checking.
  • Safely and meticulously handle samples such as cells, tissues, or chemicals for testing, ensuring full compliance with current Standard Operating procedures (SOPs) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
  • Review SOPs and protocols as needed to incorporate new methods and technologies.
  • Initiate and maintain suspension and adherent cell lines, ensuring they are prepared for testing.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare study files as mandated by GLP.
  • Any other reasonable request

About you

To join us as a Scientist, you will need:

  • Experience of working in a life sciences laboratory environment and a life sciences degree or equivalent qualifications and experience
  • To have experience of bacterial cell culture with good aseptic technique and strong practical skills
  • To be able to demonstrate an understanding for the principles of toxicology and an enthusiasm for the application of these in both a screening and regulatory setting
  • Ideally, to have prior knowledge and experience of the principles of GLP or other laboratory standards
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills and a strong team player
  • To be proactive and able to prioritise and manage workloads effectively
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • To be IT literate and proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Most of all, you will have a passion for the application of life sciences, be a diligent scientist, and have an ambition to learn, develop and join a fun, hardworking and fast paced team.

You may have previously held the title of Laboratory Scientist, Senior Lab Technician, Scientist, Microbiologist, Study Scientist or Cell Culture Scientist.
