Friendship Public Charter School operates a network of college-preparatory public charter schools, serving students from preschool through 12th grade. Our mission is to provide a world-class education that equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary for academic achievement and success beyond high school.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct evaluations and re-evaluations for students as requested or warranted.
  • Act as an interdisciplinary team member in the special education eligibility process.
  • Administer psychological assessments (IQ, personality, and achievement) as needed.
  • Articulate test results to parents and MDT members in clear, understandable language attending to cultural sensitivity.
  • Deliver group and individual therapy sessions as indicated on student IEPs.
  • Maintain progress notes as required by Friendship Public Charter School regulations.
  • Make recommendations for purchasing assessment materials to ensure that the psychologist is adequately equipped with state-of-the-art resources.
  • Keep abreast of advances in diagnostic materials.
  • Maintain compliant IEPs, including contact logs and reports progress accordingly to parents and team members.
  • Research the effectiveness of academic programs and behavior management procedures, and acquire new information about learning and behavior.
  • Assess and evaluate the wide variety of behavior, skills, emotions, and goals in the schools they serve.
  • Intervene directly with counseling services for students and families.
  • Consult with teachers, parents, and school personnel about learning, social, and behavior problems.
  • Teach lessons on parenting skills, learning strategies, substance abuse, and other topics pertinent to healthy schools.
Qualifications
  • Experience in the role preferred.
  • Master’s degree from an accredited school or university in educational or clinical psychology including 42 semester hours of graduate coursework and 500 hours of successful field experience in a school setting under the supervision of a certified school psychologist required.
  • Must be eligible to acquire or possess DC certification as a psychologist.
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills: written, verbal, listening.
  • Ability to articulate test results to parents who are not familiar with psychological tests required.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Well organized.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced and high-needs environment.
  • Commitment to servicing students from a minority and/or lower socioeconomic background required.
