Job description

My client, a long-established and highly successful civil engineering contractor specialising in railway engineering, is looking for a Scheme Project Manager to join their work-winning team on a permanent basis.

As a primary contractor for Network Rail, my client delivers a wide range of projects from earthworks and embankment-stabilisation schemes to major structural projects such as footbridge replacements and bridge refurbishments. This is a fantastic opportunity to carve out a long-term career with a reputable business.

Candidate Responsibilities:
  1. Management of Network Rail (client) and rail-related infrastructure to requisite performance criteria, ensuring stringent KPIs are met in line with client expectations (estimate submissions, delivery timescales, risk scores, completion packs, etc).
  2. Liaise with Client personnel and represent my client in deliverability meetings as appropriate.
  3. Undertake pre-site scoping visits to capture works requirements and enable robust planning and execution of works.
  4. Liaise with the commercial team to review estimate submissions and final account details - analysing trends and reporting on day-to-day civils performance to the Project Manager to identify contractual progress of works against the programme.
  5. Manage allocated site teams to ensure compliance with site returns, commercial reporting, quality, and safety to drive efficiencies across the Framework and assist with timely submissions of EWNs/compensation events.
  6. Prepare and implement Site-specific management plans to ensure Site activities comply with Health and Safety, Quality, and Environmental Policies.
  7. Prepare and implement site documentation and contract plans to conform, as a minimum, to the Client's requirement and specification.
  8. Ensure robust programme management in the planning of works, capturing all required 3rd party access consents, possession/isolation submissions, traffic management requests, etc., where required to coordinate and facilitate the successful execution of works.
  9. Undertake site audits and engage with allocated site teams.
Candidate Requirements:
  1. Continued professional development courses as appropriate - SMSTS - MAPM - NVQ 6/7 - NEBOSH - Temporary Works Co-Ordinator.
  2. Appreciation of Network Rail design process.
  3. Experience of reactive Works Delivery Frameworks and delivery of mid-range projects (£250 - £600k).
  4. Civil Engineering Construction work, ideally in a railway environment.
  5. Demonstrable commercial experience.
  6. Demonstrable Programme Management experience.
