Job description

Lead Business Analyst (Defence IT Infrastructure)
Location: Bristol (Hybrid – 2 to 3 days remote)
Salary: £50,000 – £65,000 + excellent benefits
Clearance: Must hold SC Clearance & be eligible for DV clearance

We're working with a forward-thinking Manufacturing client in Bristol who are seeking a Lead Business Analyst to support a high-impact MoD project. This is a hybrid role, offering flexibility, great leave allowance, and a strong focus on work-life balance.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  1. Lead business analysis activity across complex programmes and portfolios, including IT infrastructure & IT Systems delivery.
  2. Take responsibility for prioritising Business Analysis activities in coordination with the Principal Architect and Programme Portfolio Manager.
  3. Develop and elaborate robust Business Cases and detailed requirements documentation for key programmes and projects.
  4. Ensure benefits are clearly identified, tracked, and monitored throughout the project lifecycle.
  5. Advocate for Business Analysis best practices and influence their adoption across the wider organisation.
  6. Support the resolution of complex issues through collaborative stakeholder engagement.
  7. Ensure alignment of project solutions with strategic business and technology objectives.
  8. Guide business and process owners to align operations and IT strategies effectively.
  9. Use business analysis tools and techniques to analyse and improve systems and processes.
  10. Evaluate manufacturing systems to better understand operational requirements and technology dependencies.

Line Management Responsibilities:

  1. Manage a team of Business Analysts across multiple project portfolios.
  2. Conduct 1:1s, performance reviews and personal development planning.
  3. Organise training and mentorship to support team growth and capability.
  4. Lead and support BAs in stakeholder engagement, delivery planning, and quality assurance of outputs.
  5. Oversee recruitment and onboarding of new Business Analysts where needed.
  6. Identify opportunities to improve Business Analysis policies, frameworks, and ways of working.

What We’re Looking For:

  1. Strong experience as a Business Analyst in a Defence or Manufacturing environment.
  2. Experience leading BAs across multiple projects or portfolios. Background in IT Systems & Infrastructure.
  3. Comfortable working in both Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
  4. Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills.
  5. Experience guiding business change and supporting strategic initiatives. BA qualifications (e.g., BCS Practitioner, Six Sigma) desirable.
  6. Active SC clearance, and eligible and willing to undergo clearance.
