An established industry player is seeking a dedicated SAS Education Adviser to enhance the professional development of SAS Doctors and Dentists. NHS Education for Scotland is leading a programme, funded by Scottish Government, to support the professional development of Specialist, Associate Specialist and Specialty Doctors and Dentists, who form a significant part of the NHS Workforce. This development is supported by a dedicated SAS Professional Development Fund, to which SAS Doctors and Dentists can apply, beyond their contractual entitlement to study leave, to support access to significant training opportunities which will enhance delivery of clinical services and improve patient safety and care. The aims of the SAS Development Programme include supporting the aspirations of SAS Doctors who have not completed a CCT, but may be able to achieve entry onto the specialist register by completion of the Portfolio Pathway to Specialist Registration (formerly CESR).
The SAS Education Adviser will assume a key leadership role at local level, in conjunction with their local Director of Medical Education (DME), and will aim to support all substantive SAS grades employed in their territorial health board, to achieve their professional development aims.
NES is seeking to appoint an innovative and enthusiastic individual to work as a local SAS Education Adviser, as part of a national managed educational network, who will:
The successful candidate will be a qualified doctor or dentist and hold a substantive post at SAS grade. The programmed activity allocation is based on the headcount number of SAS doctors and dentists working in the NHS Tayside Health Board.
Applicants can apply to undertake the role in addition to existing PAs, or if the role is to replace existing PAs, the candidate must have the approval by the time of interview from their Clinical Director. While there will need to be flexibility in terms of when the PAs are worked, it is expected that this work will be predominantly carried out within office hours, Monday - Friday.
The appointment process will be the responsibility of NES Medical Directorate. The management of the SAS Education Adviser will be the responsibility of the SAS Associate Postgraduate Dean.
The post will be on a fixed term basis for 3 years, until approximately March 2028 in the first instance.
