Job description

Specialist Distributor and Manufacturer of Pumps for various industry sectors is seeking an experienced Sales Engineer to join their established team covering the Midlands area. This position requires demonstrating both sales expertise and technical proficiency, with a focus on expanding the current customer base while driving new business development.


Successful candidates for the position of Sales Engineer would possess good mechanical engineering knowledge, be self-motivated, and hold a full driving licence. Offered as a permanent contract, the role of Sales Engineer offers a market competitive salary, company benefits, progressive work environment, significant scope of development, and immediate start.


Duties and Responsibilities of Sales Engineer:
  1. Acting as main contact for all sales-related queries within specified sales area
  2. Generating leads, converting quotations into customer orders
  3. Sales forecasting
  4. Coordinating projects between the manufacturing facility and customers
  5. Completing sales and service support reports
  6. Maintaining computer-based records
  7. Assisting with sales and service calls
  8. Site visits
  9. Establishing customer rapport
  10. Supplier training
  11. Constantly updating own knowledge of company products
  12. Securing orders, guaranteeing product standards, and assuring product delivery
  13. Helping clients to solve problems with product usage
  14. Recommending new and improved products to customers
  15. Collaborating with the team on quotations and enquiries

Skills and Attributes Required:
  1. Experience of working in an engineering/sales environment is essential, ideally pumps related
  2. Strong communication, interpersonal, customer service and sales skills
  3. Customer-focused, driven to provide consistently high levels of service
  4. Hard working and committed
  5. The ability to relate technical information to non-technical customers
  6. Ability to read technical drawings - desirable

Location: Birmingham, West Midlands
Hours of Work: Mon to Thurs 08.00 - 16.30, Fri 08.00 - 15.30 (39 hours per week)
Salary: £35,000 to £40,000 - negotiable dependent upon experience
Benefits: Company Car, Company Phone and Private Health Insurance (subject to contract terms)
Contract: Permanent
