Reporting to the SAFE centre Manager, the Quality Manager will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the UKAS accreditation process against ISO 15189 and the ongoing maintenance, once achieved. It is a requirement for all SARC's in the UK to be accredited by October 2025 and we have submitted our application for assessment.
You will lead on providing specialist support to ensure the Centre achieves and maintains accreditation to the relevant Quality Standards set by the Forensic Science regulator. You will develop and manage a Quality Management System to enable the service to provide assurance against the standards. You will be responsible for writing policies, setting standards to ensure our practices and procedures meet the requirements of the relevant Quality standards.
This is a role that has developmental opportunity with the potential of annex 21 at band 5 for 12 months in training if appropriate. There is also the potential for the post holder to undertake some Crisis Working role (patient facing) within this post.
All candidates must be willing to provide a DNA sample for staff elimination purposes if successful in the role as part of the UKAS accreditation requirements to work in a SARC.

Main duties of the job
You will take responsibility as a Quality lead for the SARC, providing expertise on all matters appertaining to quality and accreditation systems. You will lead on the implementation of a quality management system and roll out training for all staff on how to use it and will lead on the implementation and maintenance of the staff DNA database.
You will lead on developing and undertaking the internal and external audits required within the Trust, for the UKAS accreditation and for NHS England's yearly quality schedule, in order to provide assurance that the service is working within the standards, with actions in place where there is variation.
You will maintain an in-depth working knowledge of current legislation, updates, changes and any new legislation in relation to the Quality Standards. You will ensure policies, practices and procedures meet the requirements of the relevant Quality standards to prevent discrepancy, whilst being able to interpret the information and disseminate to the team to ensure ongoing compliance and achievement of accreditation.
You will assist with the smooth running of the Centre and to deputise in the absence of the manager, when necessary, supporting other staff members in delivering a high quality service.
You will also liaise closely with external stakeholders, such as the forensic sciences department at the Lancashire Constabulary, UKAS, other SARC's and the Forensic Capability Network.
