RTT and Referral Team Leader
NHS AfC: Band 5

Welcome to Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and thank you for your interest.

In addition to receiving tertiary referrals from across the South East of England, we have a network of ‘spoke’ sites at district general hospitals enabling our consultants to offer their expertise with routine treatments and consultations as close to patients’ homes as possible. With the recent addition of video-led ‘virtual’ consultations, we also enable patients who have some distance to travel to avoid the additional stress and worry of a long journey.

Working at QVH combines the excitement, challenge, and career opportunities of many larger organisations with the satisfaction of delivering excellent patient care that really does rebuild our patients’ lives.

We also offer attractive benefits such as:

  • Tailored personal development to support career aspirations, including accredited clinical and management development programmes.
  • Flexible working arrangements for a work-life balance that suits you and your needs.
  • A dedicated reward programme, offering a range of national and local discounts, cashback, and tax relief schemes.

Sustainability

At Queen Victoria Hospital, we want to be the first Net Zero Hospital in England. To achieve that, we want every member of staff to be a green champion. The way in which the Trust works has a significant impact on the organisation’s carbon footprint and that of our patients. From the heat, light, and power supplies within the hospital to avoiding unnecessary patient journeys, the Trust is empowering all staff to create a sustainable health and care environment for future generations. The Trust expects all staff to reuse and recycle more, use energy and water efficiently, walk or cycle to work if you can, and focus on sustainability in the workplace.

The post holder will be responsible for the performance of the RTT and Referrals administration team and will line manage the seven members of staff. The post holder will be required to have a high level of RTT and pathway knowledge to explain and guide staff through the several complex pathways the trust has. You will work closely with the individual services and oversee the smooth running of the registration and validation of patient pathways.

We expect you to be hardworking, engaged, and supportive towards your colleagues. You will have to learn and practice a number of different administrative functions and to offer feedback and suggestions to improve the service, as well as supporting the team to do the same.

Main duties of the job
  • RTT validation: ensuring the trusts RTT waiting list is fully validated, data quality is of the highest standard in relation to RTT, and support the performance team in validation of pathways for external and internal audits.
  • Referrals: to ensure the smooth running of the registration of patients, managing staff's workloads and prioritising work when required.
  • Service development and analytics: to support the services in achieving the trusts RTT targets, and producing complex RTT and referrals data reports, analysing trends and putting forward any actions where areas of improvement are identified.
  • Leadership and people management: line manager for the RTT and Referrals Team (7 staff members), this would include recruitment responsibilities, leading team meetings, and participating in the trusts annual appraisal process for all staff members.
  • Communication: to communicate and exchange complex RTT information with all staff levels, using negotiation and persuasive skills.
  • Education and training: leading on group training sessions in relation to the application of the RTT rules and the trusts access policy, as well as individual staff training. To be the trusts subject matter expert on the application of the national RTT rules.
