Job Title: Maintenance Technicians

Pay rate: 48,550.70 including shift allowance + 6,000 Location allowance

Job Location: North Pole Depot, NW10

Shifts: 5 on 5 off, days and nights

Duration: Permanent

Start Dates: September 2024

Role Summary

This role will be part of the permanent technical team undertaking maintenance, repair and rudimentary fault finding on rail vehicles, ensuring that the Rolling stock Fleet are operated safely.


Job Overview

To undertake all types of planned and unplanned Mechanical & Electrical maintenance work, repair and fault finding on Rolling Stock to ensure that we provide our customer with a reliable, safe and defect free train. The Technician will be responsible for ensuring that any maintenance they have undertaken at the depot is done so in accordance with the companies' safety regulations using engineering processes and techniques. The position of Technician is a Safety Critical position and is the key focal point for the safe and reliable running of the fleet. To take responsibility for the safe, efficient, and professional workmanship of self and others under their charge. Modify or manufacture and install new traction and rolling stock components using engineering processes and techniques. Undertake detailed fault finding and investigation on specific technical issues. Prepare for and undertake the removal and replacement of traction and rolling stock components. Carry out repairs to traction and rolling stock following technical scopes of work. Update the record keeping system with clear and concise information of work carried out. Identify possible improvements and feedback into the business. Required to continually look at opportunities to adopt and develop continuous improvement techniques. Co-operate with management in all matters relating to Health and Safety. Advise of any defects/deficiencies in equipment/arrangements that could compromise the Health and Safety of themselves and others. Support good housekeeping and waste management initiatives while maintaining the condition of the work site, materials, and equipment. Learn and develop new skills in accordance with the business demands. Liaise with internal and external personnel where required to complete duties.


Candidates from the following industries will be considered:

  1. Aerospace / Aircraft Maintenance - Routine Maintenance on Aircraft
  2. Defence - Routine Maintenance on Submarines / Ships
  3. EX Forces Electrical Engineer - Routine Maintenance on Aircraft/ helicopters/ HGV
  4. Mechanical Maintenance Technician - Routine Maintenance on Production line machinery
  5. Electrical Maintenance Technician - Routine Maintenance on Production line machinery
  6. Electrical Infrastructure Technician - Routine Maintenance on Rail Depot / Rail Station
  7. Other relevant industries and disciplines.

Qualifications and Experience:

A must is a formal electrical or mechanical engineering qualification i.e., apprenticeship, Degree, HND, HNC, City and Guilds Level 3 or NVQ Level 3. Must have workplace experience in a Mechanical, Electrical or Dual Skilled role. Intermediate IT skills.


Desirable Skills

Previous experience working within the rail industry on modern rolling stock. Train driving. Driving License. Use of powered plant and tooling.
