Main duties of the job

The Robotic Surgery Team at UHS are delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic and self-motivated qualified Surgical First Assistant (SFA) to join us as part of our expanding service. We provide dedicated Robotic SFA's to 7 different specialties in both adult and paediatric patients and SFA skills to all other specialties. We have 3 different Robotic Surgical Systems in our portfolio from 2 different manufacturers (Intuitive Da Vinci and CMR Versius).

The working hours are 08:00-18:00 Monday to Friday with the possibility of extending until 19:30 and adhoc weekend lists.

Job responsibilities

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  1. Provide specialist Robotic Surgical First Assistance to different specialties.
  2. Provide surgical first assistance to non-robotic surgeries when deemed necessary.
  3. Support and provide training to Surgeons and scrub team to be competent and safe practitioners for Robotic Surgery.
  4. Contribute to the quality agenda for the service with the use of audit tools.
  5. Work collaboratively with the rest of the theatre team.
  6. Be able to work flexibly across UHS sites including Princess Anne Hospital and Lymington and New Forest Hospital when the need arises.

What we're looking for

  • Successful completion of Surgical First Assistant Part 1 and Part 2 and evidence required as part of the employment checks.
  • Scrub Practitioner experience in multiple specialties.
  • Self-motivated and flexible.
  • Physically and mentally resilient.
  • Good written and verbal communication.
  • Flexibility to work occasional weekend and evening working as and when needed.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

  • 1st / 2nd Level NMC/HPC-registered Theatre Practitioner.
  • Qualified surgical first assistant (Part 1/Part 2).
  • Successful completion of supervised practice programme.
  • Evidence of working in a team.
  • Robotic knowledge and clinical experience essential.
  • Logical and consistent work pattern.
  • Evidence of continuing personal development.
  • Recent urology scrub experience.
  • Special theatre qualifications.
  • Recognised teaching/mentoring qualification.
  • Supervised practice programme undertaken in an acute hospital.
  • Experience in another speciality.
