Job description

Job Title: Roads Policing Process Support Officer (Administrator)


Duration: 6 months


Location: Essex area


Salary: £13p/h


Working hours: 37.5 hours


Main Purpose of the Role:

Administer the initial process of viewing downloaded camera offences through to disposal, dealing with all associated correspondence and enquiries ensuring the appropriate recording and release of data, providing excellent customer service. Administer the initial stages of all minor traffic offences for the county including officer tickets, downloaded camera offences and electronic TORs from initial input through to final disposal.


  1. Process communication in and out of the department through a range of media including post, telephone and email enquiries ensuring processing promptly and reviewing requests on a daily basis to agreed internal SLAs.
  2. View downloaded camera offences ensuring that they meet the requirements for prosecution and discontinuing the offence where appropriate. Where required, support the wider Road Crime Unit in areas of demand by undertaking processing support work outside of immediate department. This will also include maintaining a working knowledge for all associated departments within Roads Policing Support. Attend court as a prosecution witness if required.
  3. Support and resolve queries from members of the public; deal with queries in a fair and professional manner, escalating more complex or serious issues to the appropriate team leader or relevant RPU staff and being aware of any potentially fraudulent activity so as to identify criminality at an early stage.
  4. Maintain a good understanding and working knowledge of systems and process maps to support interrogation and navigation to complete required case specific tasks efficiently and effectively. Develop and maintain knowledge of all required systems and a willingness to embrace future system upgrades and developments.
  5. Input and retrieve data using internal systems efficiently and accurately meeting the required performance levels, working at times under pressure to complete work volumes. Undertake initial investigation enquiries using those systems to establish if an alleged offender can be traced or identified and whether offences/activity can be linked to determine whether there is a pattern of criminal behavior.
  6. Support the Process function by actively taking part in regular review discussions with team leaders and section heads to enhance process efficiencies, supporting team leaders in the induction and training of new team members when required.
Necessary Experience:
  1. The post holder requires a good level of general education to GCSE Level including English.
  2. The post holder will be able to demonstrate evidence of possessing a good standard of written communication and the ability to review and assess requests for information. Furthermore, they will need to have the ability to extract and present data.
  3. Good keyboard skills and understanding of Microsoft Office Packages and at least 6 months office administrative experience, having the willingness to learn a wide range of computer applications including typing skills.
  4. It would be advantageous to have knowledge of the data protection act. Systems knowledge will also be a benefit in relation to PNC, STORM and Intelligence. The post holder will need to become proficient with CRASH as the recording system for all road collisions.
